Disneyland tickets are generally nonrefundable. You normally cannot cancel a standard theme park ticket and receive your money back, even when your travel plans change. However, you may be able to change your park reservation, use the ticket on another eligible date or apply the value of a wholly unused expired ticket toward a new ticket.
The best option depends on whether the ticket has been used, whether it has expired and where you purchased it. A standalone Disneyland ticket also follows different rules from a vacation package, hotel reservation or separately ticketed event.
One important distinction is that your theme park ticket and park reservation are separate. Canceling or changing a park reservation does not automatically cancel, refund or extend the admission ticket connected to it.
Disneyland Ticket Refund Policy at a Glance
| Situation | What Usually Happens |
|---|---|
| Unused standard ticket | No cash refund, but you may be able to change the park reservation and use the ticket on another valid date |
| Wholly unused expired ticket | The amount originally paid may generally be applied toward a new eligible ticket costing the same or more |
| Partially used multi-day ticket | No refund or credit for the remaining unused days |
| Missed park reservation | The reservation expires, but the unused ticket may remain valid under its own expiration terms |
| Higher-priced replacement date | You may need to upgrade the ticket and pay the price difference |
| Third-party ticket | Contact the original seller and follow the terms attached to that purchase |
| Special-event ticket | Separate and frequently more restrictive terms apply |
| Vacation package | The complete package follows separate cancellation and refund terms |
Are Disneyland Tickets Refundable?
No. Disneyland’s standard ticket terms state that tickets and their associated features are nonrefundable, nontransferable and cannot be redeemed for cash.
Disneyland generally does not promise a refund because:
- Your travel dates changed
- You became sick or experienced a personal emergency
- You missed the date of your park reservation
- You decided not to visit
- The weather was poor
- A ride, show or other park offering was unavailable
Disney may provide an applicable refund when Disney cancels the actual ticket. This is different from a ride closure, entertainment cancellation, weather disruption or voluntary change in a guest’s plans.
You can review the exact language in Disneyland’s official eTicket terms and conditions.
Can You Cancel Disneyland Tickets?
You can decide not to use a Disneyland ticket, but canceling your plans does not normally produce a cash refund.
Standalone theme park tickets do not have a standard cancellation window similar to many hotel reservations. The ticket remains subject to its original validity, expiration and use restrictions.
What you can often cancel or modify is the associated park reservation. Doing so may allow you to reserve another eligible date while continuing to use the same admission ticket.
For hotel stays, vacation packages, dining reservations and other bookings, see my broader Disneyland cancellation policy. Those reservations do not necessarily follow the same rules as standalone tickets.
Can You Change a Disneyland Ticket Date?
You can generally modify the date or starting park connected to an existing theme park reservation, subject to availability and the terms of your admission ticket.
To modify a park reservation:
- Sign in to your MyDisney account.
- Open the My Theme Park Reservations page.
- Select “Modify Reservation” beside the reservation you want to change.
- Select the members of your party whose reservations will change.
- Choose an available date and starting park.
- Review and confirm the new reservation.
The new date must be one on which the ticket is valid. A standard one-day ticket can generally be used for a date in its assigned tier or a lower tier. Visiting on a higher-tier date may require an eligible ticket upgrade and payment of the difference.
Changing the reservation does not extend the ticket’s expiration date. The admission must still be valid for the new date you select.
My Disneyland ticket change policy explains the difference between changing the reservation and changing the actual ticket.
What Happens If You Miss Your Disneyland Reservation?
A park reservation that is not used expires at the end of its scheduled date and is not automatically replaced.
However, missing the reservation does not necessarily mean that a wholly unused admission ticket loses all of its value on the same day. The ticket continues to follow its own validity and expiration rules.
Check the ticket’s expiration date in the Disneyland app, your confirmation email or the terms included with the purchase. If it remains valid, you may be able to make another reservation for an available eligible date.
What Happens to an Unused Disneyland Ticket?
An unused ticket can normally be used until its stated expiration date, provided the ticket is valid for the selected date and a compatible park reservation is available.
Before purchasing another ticket, check whether the original ticket can still be used. Changing plans does not necessarily mean you need to abandon the admission you already purchased.
Keep the original ticket number, purchase confirmation and receipt. These can help Disneyland identify the ticket and determine which options apply.
Do Expired Disneyland Tickets Retain Their Value?
A wholly unused expired standard Disneyland theme park ticket may generally retain the amount originally paid toward the purchase of a new eligible theme park ticket.
The replacement ticket must cost the same as or more than the amount paid for the original ticket. If it costs more, you pay the difference.
The original value cannot be:
- Returned as cash
- Used to purchase food or merchandise
- Applied to unrelated resort products or services
- Used to receive a refund for a lower-priced replacement ticket
Special-event tickets are excluded from Disneyland’s standard expired-ticket value provision. Promotional and third-party tickets may also have different terms, so review the conditions included with the original purchase.
Can You Get a Refund for Unused Days?
No. Disneyland does not provide a refund or credit for the unused portion of a partially used theme park ticket.
For example, if you use two days of a three-day ticket, you normally cannot request a refund or future credit for the remaining day.
A multi-day ticket must also be completed within the use period stated in its terms. Standard tickets commonly expire a set number of days after their first use or on their printed expiration date, whichever occurs first.
Can You Transfer a Disneyland Ticket to Someone Else?
Disneyland tickets are nontransferable and must be used by the same person on every valid day.
An entirely unused ticket may sometimes still display another person’s name in your account, but that does not mean guests should sell or transfer tickets without first confirming the permitted process with Disneyland.
Once a multi-day ticket has been used for admission, the same guest must use it for all remaining days.
Can You Upgrade a Ticket Instead of Getting a Refund?
Some valid and eligible tickets can be upgraded, but an upgrade is not guaranteed and should not be treated as a universal alternative to a refund.
You may be able to upgrade an eligible ticket to:
- A ticket valid for a higher-tier date
- A ticket with additional eligible features
- An available Magic Key pass
Magic Key upgrades are subject to pass availability, ticket eligibility and timing restrictions. Eligible one-day tickets generally must be upgraded by the end of the visit date, while eligible multi-day tickets must be upgraded by the end of the ticket’s final valid day.
A wholly unused expired ticket may have different upgrade procedures and may require an in-person visit to a Disneyland ticket booth.
See my guide to upgrading a Disneyland ticket before assuming your ticket qualifies.
What If You Bought Tickets From Costco or Another Seller?
Contact the company that sold you the ticket and review the terms included with that purchase.
Tickets purchased through Costco, a travel agency, an employee portal, a membership organization or another third party may have refund, exchange and expiration rules that differ from tickets purchased directly from Disneyland.
Disneyland may not be able to refund or modify a purchase made through another company. The original seller is generally the best starting point when payment was made directly to that seller.
For more context, see my guide to whether Disneyland tickets are cheaper at Costco.
What About Military, Resident and Promotional Tickets?
Military, resident and other promotional tickets frequently include their own eligibility rules, valid dates, blockout dates and expiration terms.
Do not assume that the expiration date or unused-value policy for a standard ticket automatically applies to a discounted offer. Review the terms displayed when the ticket was purchased and contact the issuing organization when applicable.
My guide to Southern California resident Disneyland tickets explains the eligibility and use restrictions commonly attached to that offer.
Will Disneyland Make an Exception for Illness or an Emergency?
Disneyland’s published ticket terms do not promise refunds for illness, missed flights, family emergencies or other personal circumstances.
You can still contact Disneyland and explain the situation. A Cast Member may be able to clarify how to reschedule, use an unused ticket or apply eligible expired value, but you should not depend on receiving an exception that is not included in the ticket terms.
Contact Disneyland before using the ticket or allowing it to expire whenever possible. Waiting may remove options that were available while the ticket was still valid.
What to Do When Your Disneyland Plans Change
- Confirm where the ticket was purchased. Tickets purchased directly, through packages and through third parties may follow different terms.
- Check whether any part of the ticket has been used. A wholly unused ticket normally provides more options than a partially used one.
- Find the expiration date. Check the Disneyland app, confirmation email or original ticket terms.
- Look for another eligible date. Review both ticket validity and park-reservation availability.
- Modify the park reservation. Do this through your MyDisney account when another compatible date is available.
- Compare ticket tiers. A higher-tier date may require an upgrade and additional payment.
- Ask about unused expired value. A wholly unused expired standard ticket may retain the amount originally paid.
- Contact the original seller. Start there when the ticket was purchased from a third party.
- Keep your records. Save the ticket number, confirmation email and receipt.
The Disneyland Refund Policy in Plain English
You normally cannot return a Disneyland ticket and receive cash back. The most practical solution is usually to move the park reservation and use the existing ticket on another eligible date.
If a standard ticket expires without ever being used, the original amount paid may still be applied toward a new ticket costing the same or more. That does not apply in the same way to partially used tickets, and special-event or promotional tickets may have different restrictions.
Before purchasing replacement admission, contact Disneyland or the original ticket seller and ask what can be done with the ticket you already own.
