Room-Only Disneyland Hotel Reservations: The 4-Day Rule
If you booked only a room directly at Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s current policy gives you considerably more flexibility than a vacation package.
When you make a room-only Disneyland Resort Hotel reservation, the deposit is generally equal to the first night’s room rate plus applicable taxes and fees.
Cancel at least 4 days before your scheduled arrival and that deposit is refundable.
If you cancel less than 4 days before arrival, the first night’s room rate plus applicable taxes and fees is generally retained as the cancellation fee.
This is important if you’ve seen older Disneyland cancellation information online. Disney previously used a five-day deadline, so older guides can still show a 5-day rule even though the current room-only policy uses 4 days.
There Is Also a 24-Hour Booking Policy
Disney also provides additional flexibility immediately after booking.
A qualifying Disneyland Resort Hotel room-only reservation can be fully refundable within 24 hours of booking when the reservation was made at least 72 hours before the posted check-in time.
This matters most when you notice a booking mistake immediately, such as selecting the wrong dates or room.
Disneyland Vacation Package Cancellation Policy
A Disneyland Resort vacation package combines accommodations with other components such as theme park tickets, so it has a different cancellation schedule.
Cancel 30 or More Days Before Arrival
Disney’s current terms state that amounts paid are refunded when a vacation package is canceled 30 or more days before arrival.
Exceptions can include nonrefundable travel protection costs, cancellation fees imposed by third-party hotels or suppliers, and other amounts specifically identified as nonrefundable.
Cancel 4 to 29 Days Before Arrival
Cancel during this period and Disney currently deducts a $200 cancellation fee per package from the refund.
Third-party supplier fees, nonrefundable travel protection costs or other amounts owed can also be deducted where applicable.
Cancel 3 Days or Less Before Arrival
This is the important cutoff. Disney’s current terms state that a package canceled 3 days or less before arrival is nonrefundable.
That includes the Disneyland Resort admission tickets and other components included with the package.
Room-Only vs Vacation Package: Why the Difference Matters
If flexibility is important to you, don’t assume that every Disneyland hotel reservation has the same cancellation terms.
- Room-only: more flexible cancellation deadline and your park tickets, if purchased separately, remain a separate transaction.
- Vacation package: hotel and ticket components are bundled together under the package cancellation policy.

The amount due when you book also depends on how the reservation is structured.
Room-Only Reservation
A room-only Disneyland Resort Hotel reservation generally requires a deposit equal to the first night’s room rate plus applicable taxes and fees. The remaining room balance is due at check-in.
Vacation Package
For a vacation package booked 31 days or more before arrival, Disney currently requires a $200 deposit per reservation. The remaining balance is due 30 days before arrival.
If you book a package 30 days or less before arrival, full payment is due when you make the reservation.
How to Cancel a Disneyland Hotel Reservation
If the reservation is linked to your MyDisney account and eligible for online cancellation, start by signing in and opening your hotel reservation.
- Sign in to your MyDisney account.
- Open your linked Disneyland Resort hotel reservation.
- Look for the option to cancel or modify the reservation.
- Review the cancellation terms shown for that specific booking before confirming.
If your reservation cannot be canceled online, Disney directs guests with hotel reservation questions to the Walt Disney Travel Company at (714) 520-5060.

If you booked through a travel agent, Costco Travel, Expedia or another third party, contact that company instead. The cancellation rules attached to a third-party booking can differ from Disney’s direct-booking policy.
Can You Modify the Reservation Instead of Canceling?
In many cases, yes. Depending on availability, you may be able to change your dates, room type or length of stay instead of canceling completely.
A modification doesn’t guarantee that your original price will carry over. If the new room or dates cost more, you are responsible for the difference.
Vacation-package changes made less than 30 days before arrival can also be subject to fees imposed by third-party suppliers, and Disney restricts some changes close to arrival.
Before canceling a discounted reservation, compare the price of your new dates. A promotion attached to the original reservation may not be available after the change.
What Happens If You Don’t Show Up?
A no-show is not a way around the cancellation policy.
For a vacation package, Disney currently states that the full price of the package is nonrefundable in the event of a no-show.
For a room-only reservation, waiting until you’re inside the cancellation window generally means losing the first night’s room rate plus applicable taxes and fees.
If you know you can’t make the trip, cancel or contact Disney rather than simply failing to arrive.
Does the Same Policy Apply to Grand Californian?
The same basic Disneyland Resort Hotel room-only cancellation framework applies when you book a room-only stay directly with Disney at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa or Pixar Place Hotel.
That means the current direct-booking room-only policy uses the 4-day cancellation deadline, with the first night’s room rate plus applicable taxes and fees generally at risk if you cancel inside that window.
What can change is the individual rate or promotion attached to your reservation, so your confirmation remains the final source for the terms governing your booking.

What Happens to Disneyland Tickets If You Cancel the Hotel?
This depends on whether the tickets were part of a vacation package.
If you bought park tickets separately from a room-only reservation, canceling the hotel does not automatically turn those tickets into refundable tickets. Disneyland theme park tickets generally have their own terms and are normally nonrefundable.
If your tickets are part of a Disneyland Resort vacation package, they follow the package cancellation rules described above.
