Tokyo Disneyland is not actually inside Tokyo. The park is in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, on the eastern side of Tokyo Bay.
The location is still very convenient for a Tokyo trip. The nearest major rail stop is JR Maihama Station, which Tokyo Disney Resort says is about 15 minutes by train from Tokyo Station. From Maihama Station, Tokyo Disneyland is about a 5-minute walk.
So if you’re looking at a map and wondering why “Tokyo” Disneyland appears outside Tokyo Metropolis, you have the right place. The park, Tokyo DisneySea, Disney hotels and the rest of Tokyo Disney Resort are all centered around the Maihama area of Urayasu.
Where Exactly Is Tokyo Disneyland in Japan?
Tokyo Disneyland is located in:
- City: Urayasu
- Prefecture: Chiba
- Area: Maihama
- Country: Japan
- Nearest JR station: Maihama Station
Urayasu sits immediately east of Tokyo and borders Tokyo Bay, which is why the resort remains practical as a day trip even though it is technically in Chiba Prefecture.
Tokyo Disneyland is one part of the larger Tokyo Disney Resort. The resort also contains Tokyo DisneySea, Disney hotels, Ikspiari and the Disney Resort Line monorail.

What Is the Address for Tokyo Disney Resort?
Tokyo Disney Resort lists its official address as:
1-1 Maihama
Urayasu-shi, Chiba-ken 279-8511
Japan
For actually traveling to Tokyo Disneyland by train, however, I would navigate to JR Maihama Station rather than relying on the street address.
Tokyo Disney Resort publishes its current location and transportation information on the official Tokyo Disneyland access page.
Maihama Station Is the Closest Train Station to Tokyo Disneyland
If you’re coming from Tokyo by train, Maihama Station is the stop you want.
Maihama is served by the JR Keiyo Line and JR Musashino Line.
Tokyo Disney Resort currently estimates the trip from Tokyo Station like this:
- Take the JR Keiyo Line or JR Musashino Line from Tokyo Station.
- Ride approximately 15 minutes to Maihama Station.
- Exit at Maihama.
- Walk approximately 5 minutes to Tokyo Disneyland.
That puts the official Tokyo Station to Tokyo Disneyland travel estimate at about 20 minutes once you’re on the route.
I would still allow extra time inside Tokyo Station. The station is large, and reaching the Keiyo Line platforms can take longer than the train ride itself if you’re unfamiliar with the layout.
How Far Is Tokyo Disneyland From Central Tokyo?
The answer depends heavily on where you’re staying in Tokyo.
Tokyo Disney Resort currently gives these approximate public transportation times to Tokyo Disneyland:
- Tokyo Station: about 20 minutes by train and walking
- Shinjuku Station: about 40 minutes by train
- Akihabara Station: about 35 minutes by train
- Ikebukuro Station: about 55 minutes by train
- Yokohama Station: about 60 minutes by train
Those are approximate transportation times, so I would add a buffer for walking, transfers and waiting for trains.
This is also why I would not automatically describe Tokyo Disneyland as 45 minutes to an hour from “Tokyo.” From Tokyo Station it can be much faster. From neighborhoods on the western side of Tokyo, the total journey can be considerably longer.
Do You Need the Disney Resort Line to Reach Tokyo Disneyland?
No. If you’re arriving at Maihama Station specifically for Tokyo Disneyland, walking is usually the simplest option.
Tokyo Disney Resort lists Tokyo Disneyland as approximately a 5-minute walk from Maihama Station.
The Disney Resort Line monorail is more useful for moving around the wider resort, particularly when traveling to Tokyo DisneySea and several of the resort hotels.
Resort Gateway Station is next to Maihama Station, so you can transfer there if your destination is elsewhere within Tokyo Disney Resort.
How Far Is Tokyo Disneyland From Haneda and Narita Airports?
If Disney is your first or last stop in Japan, the airport location can make a meaningful difference.
Tokyo Disney Resort currently estimates:
- Haneda Airport to Tokyo Disneyland: about 50 minutes by train or about 45 minutes by bus
- Narita Airport to Tokyo Disneyland: about 80 minutes by train or about 65 minutes by bus
Haneda is therefore the more convenient of Tokyo’s two major airports for reaching the resort.

Should You Stay in Tokyo or Near Disneyland?
For one Tokyo Disneyland day during a longer Tokyo trip, I would usually stay wherever makes the most sense for the rest of the vacation and take the train to Maihama.
The equation changes if Tokyo Disney Resort is a major part of the trip.
If I’m spending two or more days between Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, staying around Maihama removes the cross-city commute each morning and makes an early park arrival much easier.

Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea Are in the Same Resort Area
Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea are separate theme parks, but they are both located within Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu.
Tokyo Disneyland is closest to Maihama Station. To reach DisneySea from Maihama, Tokyo Disney Resort directs guests to walk to Resort Gateway Station and take the Disney Resort Line to Tokyo DisneySea Station.
That layout is useful to understand before booking a hotel because a property described as being “near Tokyo Disney Resort” may be closer to one park, a monorail station or Maihama rather than directly beside the Tokyo Disneyland entrance.
The Location I Would Use When Planning the Trip
For practical trip planning, I would remember three place names:
- Urayasu is the city where Tokyo Disneyland is actually located.
- Chiba is the prefecture.
- Maihama is the station and resort area you’ll use when traveling there by train.
If I’m staying near Tokyo Station, Tokyo Disneyland is much closer than the “not actually in Tokyo” fact makes it sound. The JR ride to Maihama is only about 15 minutes, followed by a short walk to the entrance.
