What Can’t You Bring Into Disneyland?

The Disneyland prohibited items list includes weapons, pepper spray, marijuana, outside alcohol, glass containers, wagons, oversized bags and strollers, folding chairs, drones, selfie sticks and several wheeled recreational devices. Disneyland also reserves the right to stop any other item that Security considers harmful or disruptive.

Some commonly questioned items are allowed. You can bring an umbrella, medication, a reusable water bottle, snacks and a compact tripod that meets Disney’s limits. A vape is not listed as a prohibited item, but using it inside the parks, the Esplanade or Downtown Disney is not allowed.

This is the practical list most guests need before approaching security. Disney can change its rules and has final discretion at the entrance, so I would still check the official Disneyland Resort Rules shortly before a trip. Weapons, Pepper Spray, Marijuana and Alcohol

Weapons and self-defense devices

Disneyland prohibits firearms, ammunition, knives and weapons of every kind. That includes a small pocket knife or multitool with a blade. Pepper spray, mace and other self-defense or restraining devices are also on the prohibited list.

Objects and toys that look like firearms or weapons can be stopped as well. Leave realistic toy guns, replica weapons and weapon-like costume props at home. If a knife is part of your everyday-carry setup, remove it before leaving for the resort. The Disneyland pocket knife policy applies even to compact blades.

Marijuana, illegal substances and outside alcohol

Marijuana and marijuana-enriched products are prohibited, including when marijuana is legal under California law. The rule is separate from the policy for legitimate prescription and over-the-counter medicine. My Disneyland drug policy explains the distinction in more detail.

Do not bring alcoholic beverages into Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure. Alcohol purchased from an authorized location inside the resort is different from outside alcohol carried through security. The Hotels of the Disneyland Resort and select Downtown Disney table-service restaurants have limited exceptions, which I cover in the Disneyland alcohol policy.

Bags, Coolers, Glass and Outside Food

Suitcases, backpacks, coolers and other bags cannot be larger than 24 inches long by 15 inches wide by 18 inches high. The limit applies whether or not the item has wheels. If you are deciding between two day bags, use the smaller one and review the Disneyland bag policy before packing.

• Glass containers: Prohibited, except for small containers such as baby-food jars.
• Loose or dry ice: Not allowed in bags or coolers. Disney recommends reusable ice packs.
• Outside food: Allowed if it does not require heating, reheating, processing or refrigeration.
• Nonalcoholic drinks: Allowed in non-glass containers.

Disney asks guests to tell a Security Cast Member about outside food when entering. A sandwich, packaged snack, canned soda or filled reusable bottle is not automatically prohibited. Strollers, Wagons and Wheeled Devices

Disneyland allows strollers that are no more than 31 inches wide and 52 inches long. A double stroller can enter if it stays within both measurements. Oversized strollers are prohibited.

Wagons and stroller wagons are not allowed, regardless of their dimensions. Disney also prohibits trailer-like objects pushed, pulled or towed by a person, stroller, wheelchair or electric conveyance vehicle. Compare the Disneyland stroller policy with the separate wagon policy if you are bringing gear for young children.

Recreational devices such as skateboards, scooters, inline skates, bicycles and shoes with built-in wheels are prohibited. Mobility devices have different rules. They generally need at least three wheels, stability when stopped and unpowered, a single-rider design, a walking operating speed and dimensions no greater than 36 inches wide by 52 inches long. Disney can make disability-related assessments at the resort, so do not assume a recreational device becomes permitted simply because it is used for transportation.

Cameras, Selfie Sticks, Tripods and Drones

Drones and remote-control toys cannot enter the theme parks. Selfie sticks and other handheld extension poles for cameras or phones are prohibited too. Flags and banners are included in the same section of Disney’s rules.

A regular camera is allowed, and a tripod or monopod is not automatically banned. The support must fit inside a standard backpack and cannot extend over 6 feet. Unapproved commercial photography and filming are prohibited even when the equipment itself meets the size rule. The Disneyland camera policy explains where compact equipment crosses the line.

Costumes, Masks, Pets and Other Restricted Items

Guests ages 14 and older generally cannot wear costumes in the theme parks. They also cannot wear masks unless needed for medical purposes. Younger guests may wear masks only when they do not cover the entire face and leave peripheral vision unobstructed. Special events can have their own costume guidelines, so check the rules for the specific event rather than relying only on the everyday Disneyland costume policy.

Folding chairs are prohibited in the theme parks and Downtown Disney. Horns, whistles, large megaphones and artificial noisemakers are also prohibited. Clothing that drags on the ground, inappropriate clothing and objectionable visible tattoos can create separate entry issues.

Pets and emotional-support animals are not permitted as service animals. Disneyland recognizes trained service dogs and miniature horses that perform work or tasks for a person with a disability. Those animals remain subject to control and attraction restrictions.

Items People Mistake for Prohibited

Vape device	Not listed as a prohibited possession, but vaping is not allowed in the parks, Esplanade or Downtown Disney. It is limited to designated outdoor smoking areas.

Reusable water bottle	Allowed when it is not glass. It can already contain a nonalcoholic drink.

The distinction matters with vaping. The device itself is not on Disneyland’s prohibited-items list, but there is nowhere inside the parks to use it. Read the Disneyland vape policy before deciding whether carrying one is useful. Likewise, prescription medicine and pill organizers fall under the Disneyland medication policy, not the illegal-substance rule.

What Happens at Disneyland Security?

Disneyland states that people, bags, parcels, clothing and other items may be screened or checked. Security also has the discretion to refuse an item that is not specifically named if it may be harmful or disruptive.

Do not count on being able to store a prohibited item at the checkpoint. Before leaving your hotel or vehicle, check the easy-to-forget places: a pocket knife on a keychain, pepper spray clipped inside a purse, loose ice in a cooler, a selfie stick in a camera bag or a glass bottle tucked beside snacks. That quick check is more useful than carrying an item to the gate and hoping for an exception.
