If I want to save money near Disneyland, I would rather stay in a simple hotel five minutes from the entrance than save a little more and depend on transportation twice a day.
The best cheap hotels near Disneyland within walking distance are concentrated along Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue. Some sit directly across from Disneyland’s pedestrian entrance, while others trade a slightly longer walk for free parking, breakfast or larger rooms.
I don’t use a strict dollar amount to define “cheap” here because Anaheim hotel rates change dramatically by date. Instead, these are the nearby hotels I would price first when I’m trying to stay below the cost of Disney-owned hotels without giving up a walkable location.

Best Western Plus Park Place Inn Is the Closest Budget-Friendly Hotel I Would Check
Best Western Plus Park Place Inn & Mini Suites is directly across Harbor Boulevard from Disneyland Resort’s main pedestrian entrance.
That’s why I would check it first even if another hotel is slightly cheaper. At the end of a long park day, the location has real value.
A complimentary full breakfast is included, and rooms have a refrigerator and microwave. Mini suites can accommodate up to six guests.
The tradeoff is parking. Best Western currently lists onsite parking at $30 per night, so travelers bringing a car should add that to the room price when comparing it with hotels that include parking.
Tropicana Inn Is Another Cheap Hotel Across the Street From Disneyland
Tropicana Inn & Suites is also directly across from Disneyland and says the walk to the main entrance is about five minutes.
The rooms are straightforward, with refrigerators, microwaves and complimentary Wi-Fi. Larger families can also choose Family Suites, Kitchen Suites and Park View Suites.
Tropicana currently charges $23 plus tax per day for parking. Breakfast is not included, so I would compare its total nightly cost against Park Place Inn rather than looking only at the room rate.
If both hotels are close in price, I would choose based on whether the included breakfast at Park Place is worth more to me than the particular Tropicana room available for my dates.
Castle Inn Is One of the Better Choices if You Need Free Parking
Castle Inn & Suites is farther south on Harbor Boulevard but remains within walking distance of Disneyland.
The biggest budget advantage is that the hotel currently includes complimentary parking for one vehicle per room during the nights of your stay.
The rooms are basic, but they include a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. There is also an outdoor pool and children’s pool.
For someone driving to Anaheim, I would always compare Castle Inn’s complete price against a supposedly cheaper hotel charging $25 to $40 every night for parking.

Alpine Inn Is the No-Frills Option I Would Price
Alpine Inn is a smaller motel-style property on West Katella Avenue. It doesn’t have the extensive amenities of some of the larger hotels, but that simplicity can work in its favor if you’re primarily looking for a place to sleep near the parks.
The hotel describes itself as within easy walking distance of Disneyland Resort and currently includes complimentary parking for one vehicle with each room.
If I’m driving and the room rate is substantially below the Harbor Boulevard hotels, Alpine Inn is one I would check before moving farther away from Disneyland.
The Anaheim Hotel Is Better if You Want a Pool and More Atmosphere
The Anaheim Hotel doesn’t feel as bare-bones as many properties people associate with cheap Disneyland lodging.
It has a retro Southern California feel, a large outdoor pool and an onsite Pizza Press. Breakfast is available, but it is not a complimentary hotel breakfast.
The major cost to watch is parking. The hotel currently lists self-parking starting at $40 per day.
That means I wouldn’t automatically call it the cheapest choice even when its room rate looks competitive. It makes more sense if you are not bringing a car or value the hotel grounds and pool enough to pay a little more for them.
Desert Palms Is Worth Paying a Little More for Breakfast and Space
Desert Palms Hotel & Suites is about a 10-minute walk from Disneyland and fits a different kind of budget traveler.
The hotel includes a full hot breakfast buffet, and its room inventory includes studios, bunk-bed suites and two-bedroom suites that can accommodate larger families.
Parking currently costs $31 plus tax per night for one vehicle per room.
For a family, the free breakfast and ability to fit more people into one room can potentially offset a higher nightly rate. That’s why I would compare the total cost per person instead of dismissing Desert Palms just because a smaller motel has a cheaper standard room.
If included breakfast matters, compare it with the other hotels near Disneyland with free breakfast.
Howard Johnson Makes More Sense for Families Than Pure Bargain Hunters
Howard Johnson Anaheim Hotel & Water Playground belongs on the list because of its location and family appeal, but I wouldn’t assume it will be one of the absolute cheapest hotels for every date.
The real reason to compare it is Castaway Cove, the hotel’s water playground. For a family planning downtime away from Disneyland, that can provide value you don’t get from a basic motel room.
If the hotel is considerably more expensive than Park Place, Tropicana or Castle Inn for my dates, I would only pay the difference if I knew we were actually going to use the water facilities.
What Is the Cheapest Hotel Near Disneyland?
There isn’t one hotel that is always the cheapest near Disneyland.
Rates change constantly based on the day of the week, school calendars, conventions, Disney events and hotel occupancy. A motel that is the cheapest option on Tuesday could cost more than a nicer hotel on Saturday.
That’s why I would check several walkable properties for the exact same dates instead of searching for one permanent “cheapest Disneyland hotel.”
The hotels I would price first for pure value are:
- Alpine Inn
- Castle Inn & Suites
- Tropicana Inn & Suites
- Best Western Plus Park Place Inn & Mini Suites
Then I would add parking and breakfast to each quote before deciding which one is truly cheapest.
Cheap Hotels Across the Street From Disneyland
If your definition of walking distance is “as little walking as possible,” concentrate on the Harbor Boulevard hotels around Disneyland’s pedestrian entrance.
Best Western Plus Park Place Inn and Tropicana Inn & Suites are two of the clearest options because both sit directly across from the entrance.
I would also compare other nearby Harbor Boulevard properties when their rates are competitive. Just remember that being physically close to Disneyland doesn’t automatically make a hotel inexpensive.
For me, paying slightly more to stay across the street can still be a better value than saving $20 or $30 on the room and adding a much longer walk twice a day.
The Cheapest Room Rate Isn’t Always the Cheapest Stay
This is the calculation I think matters most around Disneyland.
Imagine Hotel A is $20 cheaper per night but charges $40 for parking, while Hotel B includes parking. Hotel B is already cheaper if you’re bringing a car.
The same goes for breakfast. Complimentary breakfast for several family members may have more value than a small difference in the room price.
When I compare budget hotels, I look at:
- Room price for my exact dates
- Hotel taxes and mandatory fees
- Nightly parking
- Whether breakfast is included
- Actual walking route to Disneyland
- Whether one room fits the entire group

Is It Worth Paying More for a Disneyland Resort Hotel?
If budget is the main goal, usually not for me.
Disney-owned hotels put you inside the Disneyland Resort environment and come with hotel-specific advantages, but some inexpensive Harbor Boulevard hotels put you exceptionally close to the same park entrances.
One thing that has changed is Early Entry. Disneyland Resort hotel guests no longer receive the old daily Early Entry benefit. The current theme park perk is one complimentary entry per registered guest to one eligible Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction during the hotel stay.
That doesn’t make Disney’s hotels bad value, but I wouldn’t compare an inexpensive offsite hotel against them using outdated Early Entry information.

How I Would Find the Cheapest Walkable Hotel for My Dates
I would start by checking Best Western Plus Park Place Inn, Tropicana, Castle Inn and Alpine Inn for the same dates.
Then I would compare the final nightly cost after parking. If I’m traveling with family, I would add Desert Palms and Howard Johnson because breakfast, larger rooms or the water playground might justify a slightly higher price.
Finally, I would look at the actual walking route. A hotel marketed as “near Disneyland” can still be much less convenient than one positioned directly beside the Harbor Boulevard pedestrian entrance.
