There are two Avatar rides at Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. Both are located in Pandora – The World of Avatar, a themed land inside Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Flight of Passage is a thrilling 3D flight simulator that takes you soaring over Pandora on a banshee. Na’vi River Journey is a gentle boat ride through a glowing rainforest. Although both are based on James Cameron’s Avatar movies, the experiences are very different.
The Two Avatar Rides at Animal Kingdom

Both attractions are inside Pandora, near the floating mountains and bioluminescent landscaping. There are no additional Avatar rides elsewhere in Animal Kingdom or at another Walt Disney World theme park.
1. Avatar Flight of Passage
Best for: Thrill seekers and older children who meet the height requirement.
Avatar Flight of Passage is the main thrill attraction in Pandora. Guests board a specially designed ride vehicle that simulates riding on the back of a mountain banshee.
The experience combines a massive 3D screen, motion, wind, mist, and other sensory effects to create the sensation of flying through Pandora’s mountains, forests, and waterways.
It isn’t a traditional roller coaster, but the motion and visual effects can feel intense. Guests who experience motion sickness or dislike immersive simulators should consider that before riding.
Flight of Passage requires riders to be at least 44 inches tall. It is also a Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction, meaning it is not included with the regular Multi Pass selections.
If your group enjoys thrilling attractions, this would be my first choice of the two Avatar rides.
2. Na’vi River Journey
Best for: Younger children, families, and guests who prefer gentle rides.
Na’vi River Journey takes visitors on a slow-moving boat ride through Pandora’s bioluminescent rainforest.
The attraction features glowing plants, unusual creatures, music, and an elaborate Audio-Animatronic Shaman of Songs near the end.
Unlike Flight of Passage, there are no major drops or high-speed movements. The experience focuses on scenery and atmosphere rather than physical thrills.
Na’vi River Journey has no minimum height requirement, making it the easier choice for families traveling with toddlers and small children. The ride takes place in a dark indoor environment, however, which may concern particularly sensitive guests.
It is also available through Lightning Lane Multi Pass, subject to availability.

Which Avatar Ride Should You Go on First?
If I could ride only one Avatar attraction, I would choose Flight of Passage. It offers the more thrilling and elaborate experience, and it is the ride I would prioritize when planning a visit to Pandora.
However, Na’vi River Journey may be the better choice for your group if you’re traveling with young children, dislike motion simulators, or simply prefer a peaceful scenic ride.
Flight of Passage is also one of Animal Kingdom’s most popular attractions, so I would plan around its standby wait or consider Lightning Lane Single Pass if reducing wait time is important.

Is Pandora Worth Visiting With Only Two Rides?
Pandora is worth exploring even if you don’t ride both attractions. The land is designed as an immersive environment with floating mountains, waterfalls, alien plants, winding pathways, and detailed scenery inspired by the Avatar films.
It also contains Satu’li Canteen, a quick-service restaurant serving customizable bowls and other Pandora-inspired food, along with Pongu Pongu and Windtraders.
After dark, the bioluminescent landscaping adds another dimension to the experience, although whether you can visit at night depends on Animal Kingdom’s operating hours.
