If you're like me and love a slower-paced Disney experience with a meaningful message, then Epcot Living with the Land might surprise you. Tucked inside The Land pavilion at EPCOT, this ride is part educational tour, part nostalgic favorite—and it's always one of my must-do attractions when I visit the park.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through what makes Living with the Land so special, how to fit it into your EPCOT day, and why it’s worth your time (even with everything else going on in the park).
If you're still planning your trip, check out my full EPCOT guide here to see how this fits into the bigger picture.
Key Tips
- Go early or during peak heat: It's a great midday break in an air-conditioned space.
- No Lightning Lane needed: It typically has a short wait and moves quickly.
- Great for all ages: Especially if you’re visiting EPCOT with toddlers or want a quieter moment during a busy day.
What to Expect on EPCOT Living with the Land
Living with the Land is a slow-moving boat ride that combines a dark ride through various biomes with a behind-the-scenes look at EPCOT’s working greenhouses. It’s one of those experiences that still reflects Walt Disney’s original vision of EPCOT as a place of innovation and learning.
As you float through artificial environments like the rainforest, desert, and plains, you'll get a brief (but well-designed) glimpse into how climate and farming work across the globe. Then the real magic happens—Disney's actual agricultural research comes to life in the greenhouse section. You’ll see real crops growing in futuristic ways, including hydroponics, aquaponics, and vertical farming.
This is where I always slow down and take it in. There’s something so calming and inspiring about watching pumpkins hang from trellises or tomatoes grow in spirals.
Plus, many of these crops end up in EPCOT restaurants, like Garden Grill and Sunshine Seasons. If you’re curious about EPCOT dining, I’ve got a guide to all the restaurants at EPCOT here.
When to Ride Living with the Land at Epcot
I usually plan to ride this attraction midday, especially when it’s hot or the more intense rides are packed.
You can walk right on most of the time, making it a great alternative when Test Track or Guardians of the Galaxy have long waits (and they usually do!).
You’ll find it in The Land Pavilion, which is also home to Soarin’ Around the World, another EPCOT must-do.
If you’re working through your game plan, here are a few itinerary options to consider:
- Half-Day EPCOT itinerary – A relaxed plan if you’re only visiting for a few hours and want to hit highlights without the stress.
- One-Day EPCOT itinerary – Ideal for first-timers looking to experience all the major rides, pavilions, and dining in one day.
- EPCOT itinerary with Genie+ – A smart approach to using Genie+ efficiently across EPCOT's most popular attractions.
- EPCOT itinerary without Genie+ – For those who prefer to skip the paid add-ons and still enjoy a smooth park day.
Why I Always Recommend It
I love big, thrilling rides—but EPCOT Living with the Land is a different kind of special. It’s thoughtful, it’s peaceful, and it genuinely teaches you something. Even though EPCOT has evolved to include more thrills (like EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Test Track), this ride holds strong as one of the few original-style experiences left.
I also appreciate that it’s one of the few rides where you can really take a breather. There’s no flashing lights or loud music—just the calm narration and the hum of the boat. Perfect if you're in EPCOT for the Festival of the Arts and need a quiet moment between the sensory overload.

What happened to the living seas at Epcot?
The Living Seas pavilion was rebranded as The Seas with Nemo & Friends. It’s still focused on marine life but now features characters from Finding Nemo.
Is Living with the Land an opening day attraction?
Yes! Living with the Land opened in 1982, though it was originally called “Listen to the Land.” It’s one of the few opening-day experiences still running.
Is Living with the Land inside the EPCOT Ball?
Nope. The ride is located in The Land pavilion, which is a separate building from Spaceship Earth (the big geodesic sphere that defines the EPCOT skyline).
Does EPCOT still have the Land pavillion?
Yes! The Land pavilion is alive and well. In fact, it houses both Living with the Land and Soarin’, two classic EPCOT attractions.
Why are dolphins leaving EPCOT?
As of recent reports, the dolphins in The Seas pavilion have been relocated as Disney reassesses how they care for marine animals in theme park environments.
Why did Horizons at EPCOT close?
Horizons closed in 1999 due to a combination of mechanical issues and changes in sponsorship. It was eventually replaced by Mission: SPACE.
