Disneyland usually remains open when it rains, and rain by itself does not entitle you to a ticket refund. Individual attractions and entertainment can be delayed, modified or canceled because of weather, but a rainy forecast does not normally mean Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure will close.
The most weather-sensitive part of a Disneyland day is often outdoor entertainment. Disney specifically says Disneyland fireworks depend on weather conditions and may be changed or canceled.
If you’re deciding whether to visit on a rainy day, the important distinction is between Disney operating with some weather-related changes and Disney itself announcing a park closure or other special accommodation.

Does Disneyland Close When It Rains?
Normal rain does not automatically close Disneyland.
Disney’s current terms make clear that attractions, entertainment, services and other offerings can be changed, limited or closed for reasons that include weather. That is different from closing the entire theme park.
In practice, the Disneyland app becomes particularly important on a wet day because individual attraction status can change while the parks remain open.
I wouldn’t cancel a Disneyland day simply because showers appear in the forecast. I would check the forecast again that morning, then use the Disneyland app to see current attraction and entertainment availability once you’re in the park.
Will Disneyland Refund Tickets Because of Rain?
Disneyland tickets are generally nonrefundable, and rain does not create a separate automatic refund policy.
Disneyland’s park rules state that tickets and other admission entitlements are nonrefundable. Disney also states that attractions and other offerings can change, close or be canceled because of weather without creating liability to Disney.
So if Disneyland remains open but rain causes several attractions or a nighttime show to close, you should not assume Disney will refund the day’s admission.

What If Disneyland Itself Closes Because of Severe Weather?
This is different from simply deciding not to visit because the forecast looks bad.
Disney reserves the right to reschedule or cancel park reservations, admission media and purchases and to provide applicable refunds.
That wording does not mean every weather disruption automatically generates a refund. It means that if Disney takes the unusual step of closing a park, canceling admission or announcing a special weather policy, you should follow the instructions Disney issues for that particular event.
I would check the Disneyland app and the official Disneyland Resort updates rather than relying on a general rain-policy article during an exceptional weather event.
Which Disneyland Rides Close When It Rains?
Disney does not publish a permanent list of attractions that always close as soon as it rains.
Attraction availability depends on the actual conditions and operational decisions that day. Wind, lightning, heavier rain or other safety concerns can affect an outdoor attraction differently than a light shower.
That means I wouldn’t build a rainy-day plan around an article claiming that a specific set of rides will definitely be closed.
Instead, open the Disneyland app and look at the live attraction list. If one outdoor ride temporarily stops operating, move to another nearby attraction rather than waiting around for it to reopen.
Fireworks Are Especially Vulnerable to Weather
Disneyland explicitly states that its fireworks are dependent on weather conditions and can be changed or canceled.
Wind can matter just as much as rain. You can therefore have a mostly dry Disneyland day and still lose the fireworks if conditions aren’t suitable for safely operating the show.
Other outdoor entertainment can also be modified or canceled. Disney advises guests to check the entertainment schedule and Disneyland app for the latest information.
If fireworks or another nighttime show is a major reason for your visit, check the schedule again later in the day instead of assuming the morning forecast tells you whether the show will happen.
Can You Change Your Disneyland Reservation Because of Rain?
If you have a valid ticket that still gives you flexibility, you may be able to modify or cancel the associated theme park reservation and choose another available date.
That is not the same thing as receiving a ticket refund.
Disney states that theme park reservations can be modified or canceled through My Theme Park Reservations. A new reservation is subject to availability, and the ticket still has to be valid for the new date you want to visit.
If you’re considering moving the visit, check availability for the new day before giving up a reservation you already hold.

What Happens to Special Events if It Rains?
Separately ticketed events can have their own rules, so don’t assume the policy for a normal park ticket applies to an event ticket.
For example, Disneyland currently states that Disneyland After Dark tickets are nonrefundable and that refunds are not given when event elements change or are canceled because of inclement weather.
If you’re attending any separately ticketed event, read the terms attached to that event rather than assuming bad weather will allow you to move the ticket.
What About Dining Reservations During Rain?
Rain doesn’t automatically cancel a dining reservation.
If you’re worried weather will change your plans, check the cancellation terms attached to the restaurant reservation in the Disneyland app before the deadline passes.
Dining packages tied to outdoor entertainment can be particularly important to check. Disney notes on some current parade dining packages that the performance can be canceled because of weather without a refund or exchange for the package.

How I Would Handle a Rainy Disneyland Day
If the parks are open, I would treat rain as a reason to make the day more flexible rather than automatically abandoning it.
- Check the app frequently. Attraction status can change throughout the day.
- Bring rain protection. A compact poncho or rain jacket is easier to carry all day than a heavy coat.
- Use indoor attractions when heavier rain arrives. Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain can give you extended time out of the weather when they’re operating.
- Keep your schedule flexible. Don’t build the entire evening around fireworks if the forecast includes rain or significant wind.
- Don’t wait until the last minute to change your date. If you decide not to go, check reservation availability and your ticket’s validity before changing anything.

Rain Does Not Mean Your Disneyland Day Is Automatically Lost
The simplest version of Disneyland’s rain policy is this: the parks can continue operating in rain, individual attractions and entertainment may change or close, and standard admission tickets remain nonrefundable.
If Disney announces an actual park closure or special severe-weather accommodation, follow that announcement because extraordinary situations can be handled differently.
For an ordinary rainy day, however, plan around changing attraction status rather than expecting a refund. Check the Disneyland app during your visit and Disney’s current park rules before your trip.
