You cannot smoke or vape inside Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, the Esplanade between the parks or Downtown Disney. If you need to smoke during your visit, you must use one of Disney’s designated outdoor smoking areas outside the smoke-free portions of the resort.
The most important thing to know is that older Disneyland maps showing smoking areas inside the parks are outdated. Don’t head toward an old Frontierland or Tomorrowland smoking location you found online. Disneyland’s current policy keeps smoking out of the theme parks and Downtown Disney.
Where Can You Smoke at Disneyland?
Disney’s current rules permit smoking only in designated outdoor smoking areas. There are no smoking sections inside Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure.

If you’re already inside a park when you want to smoke, plan on leaving the smoke-free area and then returning afterward.
Disneyland Smoking Areas Map: Don’t Use an Old Park Map
A lot of the confusion around Disneyland smoking areas comes from old park maps that are still circulating online. Those maps can show smoking locations that existed before Disneyland eliminated smoking inside the theme parks.
Instead, use Disney’s current Disneyland Resort Guest Services map and look for Designated Smoking Areas. Disney maintains smoking areas as a Guest Services category, so this is a better source than an old PDF or saved screenshot.
Locations can change, which is why I wouldn’t rely on a blog post that gives you a specific bench, planter or corner and assumes it will remain the smoking area indefinitely. If you can’t find the current location on the map, ask a Cast Member before leaving the parks.
Are There Smoking Areas Inside Disneyland?
No. There are no smoking areas inside Disneyland Park.
The same rule applies across the Esplanade and inside Disney California Adventure. Disneyland’s current rules describe the theme parks and Esplanade as smoke-free.
This is worth emphasizing because you’ll still find older Disneyland maps online showing smoking locations inside areas such as Frontierland or Tomorrowland. Those maps reflect a previous policy and should not be used to plan a current visit.
Can You Smoke in Downtown Disney?
No. Downtown Disney is also smoke-free.
You can’t simply leave Disneyland Park, cross the Esplanade and light up once you reach Downtown Disney. Disney specifically includes the Downtown Disney District in its smoke-free policy.
If you’re spending the evening shopping or dining there and need to smoke, check Disney’s current smoking-area map for the nearest designated outdoor location.
What About the Disneyland Hotel Smoking Area?
The Disneyland Resort hotels are smoke-free environments. Disney specifically prohibits smoking in guest rooms, patios and balconies.
Disney’s park rules currently state that tobacco, e-cigarettes and other smoking or vaping products may only be used in designated outdoor smoking areas. Because those locations can change, hotel guests should ask the Guest Services Desk for the nearest current designated area rather than relying on an older hotel map.
Smoking in a Disney Resort hotel room, on a balcony or on a patio can result in a $250 to $500 room-recovery fee.
Does the Disneyland Smoking Policy Include Vapes?
Yes. Vaping follows the same location rules as smoking. Disneyland’s rules specifically include e-cigarettes and other products that produce vapor or smoke.
That means you cannot vape inside Disneyland Park, California Adventure, Downtown Disney or the Esplanade just because there isn’t traditional cigarette smoke.
Bringing a vape into Disneyland is a slightly different question. Vape devices aren’t specifically named on Disney’s current prohibited-items list, but all people, bags and belongings are subject to screening and security Cast Members have final discretion over what enters the parks.

Can You Bring Cigarettes Into Disneyland?
Disney’s current prohibited-items list does not specifically list ordinary tobacco cigarettes as a banned item. However, carrying cigarettes does not give you permission to smoke anywhere inside the smoke-free areas of Disneyland Resort.
Disney also prohibits marijuana and other illegal substances on the property regardless of the smoking-area rules.

Leaving Disneyland to Smoke and Coming Back In
The practical downside of Disneyland’s smoking policy is the time involved. If you’re already deep inside the park, you’ll need to walk back out to a permitted smoking location and then return afterward.
Your Disneyland ticket can be used for re-entry on the same valid park day, subject to Disney’s normal admission and capacity rules. You should also expect to pass through the applicable security screening again when returning from outside the secured area.
If you know you’ll want several breaks during a long park day, factor that walking and re-entry time into your plans rather than waiting until you’re in the farthest corner of the park.
What Happens If You Get Caught Smoking at Disneyland?
Disneyland requires guests to follow its property rules, including the smoking policy. If you smoke or vape somewhere it isn’t permitted, stop when directed by a Cast Member and move to an approved location before continuing.
Disney’s official rules give the resort the right to require a guest to leave without a refund for failure to comply with resort rules. So ignoring repeated instructions about smoking is not worth the risk.
The Simplest Way to Handle Smoking at Disneyland
Don’t look for a smoking section once you’re inside Disneyland because there isn’t one. Before your visit, open Disney’s current Guest Services map and check the designated outdoor smoking locations so you know where you’ll need to go.
The rule is straightforward once you separate current information from old Disneyland maps: Disneyland Park, California Adventure, the Esplanade and Downtown Disney are smoke-free, and smoking or vaping is limited to designated outdoor smoking areas.
