Disney World Ticket Change Policy: What You Can Change

Disney World’s ticket change policy lets you change the date of many wholly unused standard theme park tickets. You can usually make the change through your MyDisney account, although the rules depend on the ticket type. If the new ticket costs more, expect to pay the difference. Disney tickets are generally nonrefundable, so you should not expect money back if the replacement ticket is cheaper.

An unused ticket does not necessarily become worthless when its date passes. Disney states that the amount paid for a wholly unused, expired ticket may be applied toward a new ticket priced at the same amount or higher. That is different from simply using the expired ticket at the gate.

How to Change the Date on a Disney World Ticket

For an eligible ticket linked to your account, try the online process first:

1. Sign in to your MyDisney account. Open the My Reservations and Tickets page or use the My Disney Experience app.
2. Find the ticket. If it does not appear, make sure it has been connected to your account. My guide to linking a ticket to My Disney Experience walks through that process.
3. Look for the change option. Select the eligible unused ticket, then choose “Change Ticket” or the available date-change option.
4. Select the new start date. For a 1-day ticket, you may also need to confirm the theme park. For a multi-day ticket, check the new validity window carefully.
5. Review the new price and details. Confirm the dates, ticket type, options and people assigned to the tickets before paying any increase.
6. Save the confirmation. Return to My Plans and verify that every ticket displays the correct dates.

How Much Does It Cost to Change Disney World Ticket Dates?

Disney World uses date-based pricing. A ticket for a busy holiday period may cost more than one starting on a slower weekday, so moving your visit can change the total price. You can use the Disney World ticket price calendar to understand why two dates may be priced differently.

When the New Ticket Costs More

You should expect to pay the increase shown before confirming the modification. The price can also rise if you add more park days or upgrade the ticket. When the New Ticket Costs Less

Do not count on receiving a partial refund. Disney’s published policy says Walt Disney World tickets are nonrefundable. What If Your Disney World Ticket Has Expired?

Standard Disney World tickets have a specific start date and validity window. A 1-day ticket is valid on its selected date, while multi-day tickets provide a limited window in which to use all admission days. The exact window is shown when you buy the ticket and in your account.

If a ticket is wholly unused and expired, Disney says the amount originally paid may be applied toward a new ticket at the current price. The new ticket must cost at least as much as the original. You may need Disney’s help to complete the transaction, and you will pay any increase.

Ticket Types That May Need Extra Help

Tickets Bought From a Third Party

If you purchased through a travel agency, membership program or discount seller, contact that company first. Some authorized sellers allow changes, while others require you to work through their support team. Disney may be unable to alter a ticket sold under another company’s terms.

Room-and-Ticket Packages

A vacation package is not governed only by the stand-alone ticket rules. Changing the trip can affect the hotel rate, ticket dates and package price, and the package may have its own deadlines or fees. The Disney World cancellation policy explains the distinction between tickets and packages.

Special Event and Promotional Tickets

Party tickets, limited-time offers, military admission and other discounted products can have fixed dates, blockout dates or separate change rules. Read the terms attached to that exact product instead of assuming the standard policy applies.

Tickets Assigned to the Wrong Person

Changing a date is different from moving admission to another guest. A wholly unused ticket may be eligible for reassignment, but a partially used ticket must remain with the same person. See the rules for how to transfer a Disney World ticket to another person.

Does Changing a Ticket Change a Park Reservation?

Most standard date-based Disney World tickets no longer require theme park reservations. Other admission types may still require one. If your ticket uses the reservation system, changing the ticket date does not guarantee that a reservation will be available for the new day. Check My Plans after modifying the ticket and update the park reservation separately when required.

When to Contact Disney Instead of Changing Online

• The ticket is expired, partially used or missing from your account.
• You do not see a “Change Ticket” option.
• The ticket is part of a package or a special offer.
• You are changing several ticket features at the same time.
• Your plans changed because of a qualifying hurricane warning.

Disney’s official policy says tickets and packages are generally nonrefundable, but it also describes a hurricane exception for qualifying warnings. Contact Disney before making replacement purchases if severe weather affects your trip.
