Yes, you can buy Disneyland tickets in person for a same-day visit, but admission is only possible if a theme park reservation is still available. You do not necessarily need to arrive with a reservation already made. However, Disneyland requires both valid admission and a park reservation before you can enter Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure.
If same-day reservations are available, Disney can potentially sell you a ticket and secure the required reservation. If reservations are gone for that day, buying a ticket in person will not get you around the restriction.
There is also no regular price advantage to waiting until you arrive. Disneyland tickets purchased in person cost the same as the corresponding tickets purchased through Disneyland’s website or app.
Can You Buy Disneyland Tickets at the Gate Without a Reservation?
You can arrive without an existing reservation, but you cannot enter the park without one.
That’s an important difference.
If you’re trying to make a spontaneous Disneyland visit, Disney can sell same-day admission as long as the appropriate theme park reservation is still available for the date and ticket type you’re buying.
So you don’t necessarily have to make the reservation before you arrive. But if Disney cannot secure a reservation for your ticket, you won’t be able to enter the park that day.
This is why I would check availability before heading to Anaheim rather than treating the ticket window as a guaranteed way into Disneyland.
Can You Buy Disneyland Tickets the Same Day?
Yes. Disneyland currently allows same-day ticket purchases, subject to ticket and theme park reservation availability.
You have three basic ways to make a last-minute purchase:
- Disneyland’s website
- The Disneyland mobile app
- In person at Disneyland Resort
For a same-day visit, I would still use the website or app before physically going to Disneyland. You can immediately see whether the date and starting park you want are available, then complete the ticket and reservation together.
If you purchase through Disneyland online or in the app, selecting your date and starting park during the purchase process establishes the required theme park reservation.
What If Disneyland Tickets Are Sold Out Online?
Going to Disneyland in person does not give you access to a separate pool of reservations.
If your date is unavailable online because the applicable theme park reservations are gone, I would not drive to Disneyland expecting the ticket window to override that.
Disney’s in-person ticket staff use the same reservation system. If there is no reservation availability for the ticket and park you need, they cannot simply sell you guaranteed same-day admission because you’re standing outside the gates.
Availability can change, though. Other guests sometimes cancel or modify reservations, which can put dates or starting parks back into the system.

Are Disneyland Tickets Cheaper at the Gate or Online?
Regular Disneyland tickets are not cheaper simply because you buy them at the gate.
Disney has confirmed that the price at the Disneyland ticket window is the same as the corresponding price through Disneyland’s website or mobile app.
For 1-day tickets, the amount you pay still depends on the ticket tier associated with your visit date. Multi-day tickets have their own pricing.
Waiting until you arrive therefore doesn’t create a gate-price discount. It mainly adds the risk that the reservation you need will no longer be available.

Is Buying Online Better Than Buying in Person?
For most visitors, yes.
The ticket itself isn’t cheaper online, but the process is easier because you can confirm availability before making the trip to Disneyland.
When buying through Disney online, you can choose:
- Your number of park days
- 1 Park Per Day or Park Hopper
- Your visit date
- Your starting park
- Eligible ticket add-ons such as Lightning Lane Multi Pass
The reservation is handled during that process, which removes the biggest uncertainty involved with showing up without admission.
When Buying Disneyland Tickets in Person Can Still Be Useful
There are still situations where I would consider handling a ticket purchase in person.
One is when the payment itself is difficult to handle online. Disney has confirmed, for example, that an in-person ticket purchase can support up to two credit cards, while Disneyland’s website currently allows only one credit card during a ticket transaction.
Another reason is when you need direct help from a Cast Member with an unusual ticket situation rather than making a straightforward purchase.
But I wouldn’t wait until arrival simply because I expect a better ticket price or better reservation availability. Neither is an advantage of buying in person.
Do You Still Need a Reservation If You Have a Ticket?
Yes. Disneyland currently requires both valid admission and a theme park reservation for the same date.
Having a valid unused Disneyland ticket by itself does not guarantee that you can walk into whichever park you want on whichever date you choose.
Disney states that theme park reservations are limited and subject to availability and park capacity.
This matters particularly if you already own an undated or previously purchased ticket. Make sure the required reservation exists for your visit before heading to the entrance.
Should You Buy Disneyland Tickets at the Gate?
I wouldn’t make it my first choice.
Buying in person can work, even for a same-day visit, but it doesn’t save money and it doesn’t give you access to extra reservation inventory.
If I decided this morning that I wanted to go to Disneyland today, I would first open Disneyland’s website or app and see whether admission and the necessary reservation were available. If they were, I would complete the purchase before leaving.
That gives me the same regular Disneyland ticket price without gambling on availability after I’ve already traveled to the resort.
So yes, you can buy Disneyland tickets at Disneyland. You can even potentially buy them for the same day without already having a reservation. But a reservation must still be available and secured before you can enter the park.
