Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has some of the most interesting resort dining at Walt Disney World, from African-inspired buffets and signature restaurants to casual meals overlooking a wildlife savanna.
The four main Animal Kingdom Lodge restaurants are Sanaa, Boma – Flavors of Africa, Jiko – The Cooking Place, and The Mara. Sanaa is my favorite overall for its Indian-style bread service and savanna views. Boma is best for a buffet, Jiko is the signature dining choice, and The Mara is the most convenient quick-service restaurant.
You’ll also find several lounges and pool bars, including Victoria Falls Lounge, Sanaa Lounge, and Maji Pool Bar. The important thing to understand before choosing where to eat is that Animal Kingdom Lodge has two separate buildings: Jambo House and Kidani Village.
Here’s a comparison of the restaurants, locations, menus, prices, and dining experiences, including which ones I’d actually travel to the resort to visit.

For a full sit-down meal, I would concentrate on Sanaa, Boma, or Jiko. The Mara is the strongest choice for quick service, while the lounges and pool bars are better suited to lighter meals, drinks, and snacks.
These restaurants are located at the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort, not inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. You do not need theme park admission to dine at the resort.
Jambo House vs. Kidani Village: Where Are the Restaurants?
Animal Kingdom Lodge is divided into Jambo House and Kidani Village. Although both belong to the same resort complex, they have different restaurant lineups.
Jambo House is the original main lodge. It contains the larger collection of dining options, including Boma, Jiko, The Mara, Victoria Falls Lounge, Cape Town Lounge and Wine Bar, and Uzima Springs Pool Bar.
Kidani Village is the Disney Vacation Club villa section. Its primary restaurant is Sanaa, with Sanaa Lounge and Maji Pool Bar providing additional choices.
You can travel between Jambo House and Kidani Village using the resort’s internal shuttle service or a connecting walking path. The walk generally takes around 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your starting point.
Before making a reservation, I would double-check the building. Booking Sanaa while assuming it’s in the same building as Boma can create an unnecessary last-minute rush.
Sanaa: Best Overall Animal Kingdom Lodge Restaurant

If I could choose only one restaurant at Animal Kingdom Lodge, it would be Sanaa.
What makes Sanaa special is the combination of food and scenery. The restaurant overlooks the Sunset Savanna, where guests may see giraffes, zebras, gazelles, and other wildlife moving through their habitats while they eat.
The dining room resembles an East African spice market, with carved furnishings, warm colors, and detailed decorations. Large windows face the savanna, making the location especially appealing during daylight hours.
The food combines African cooking traditions with Indian flavors. You’ll find curries, slow-cooked meats, vegetarian dishes, and an especially memorable appetizer.
What Should You Order at Sanaa?
The Indian-style Bread Service is the dish I would order first. It includes five breads and nine accompaniments, with combinations of chutneys, hummus, raita, and spicy sauces.
Disney’s published menu lists the bread service at approximately $23. It’s particularly good for sharing and gives you a way to sample several flavors before the main course.
For an entrée, the Potjie-Inspired dish lets you select a slow-cooked preparation such as butter chicken or braised beef along with a plant-based accompaniment and basmati rice. It has been listed around $38.
The lunch menu also offers sandwiches, salads, and lighter options, which can make lunch less expensive than ordering a full dinner.
When Should You Eat at Sanaa?
I would choose lunch or an early dinner if the savanna view is one of your main reasons for visiting.
Wildlife can be visible throughout the day, but daylight gives you a better opportunity to appreciate the outdoor scenery. A late dinner may still be excellent for the food, although the view becomes less useful after dark.
Window tables are not guaranteed, and animal sightings depend on wildlife activity. You can request a window table when checking in, but I wouldn’t count on receiving one at a specific reservation time.
Sanaa also offers a casual quick-service breakfast during morning hours, which is especially useful for guests staying at Kidani Village.
My recommendation: Sanaa is the strongest choice for visitors who want a memorable resort restaurant with interesting food and an opportunity to see animals. I would prioritize it over the other restaurants if this is your first Animal Kingdom Lodge dining experience.

Boma – Flavors of Africa: Best Buffet at Animal Kingdom Lodge

Boma is one of the most popular restaurants at Animal Kingdom Lodge and my first recommendation for families or groups who enjoy buffet dining.
The dining room is inspired by an African marketplace, with high ceilings, thatched details, and colorful cooking stations. The atmosphere is lively and casual compared with the quieter signature dining experience at Jiko.
What makes Boma especially appealing is its variety. The buffet combines recognizable American dishes with African-inspired recipes that you may not find at other Disney World buffets.
Boma Breakfast vs. Dinner
Breakfast is the more straightforward choice for guests who prefer familiar food. You’ll find waffles, pancakes, pastries, eggs, breakfast meats, omelets, fruit, and a selection of African-inspired dishes.
Among the more distinctive breakfast options are turkey bobotie, coconut steel-cut oatmeal, and other dishes influenced by African cooking traditions.
Dinner is where Boma becomes more interesting for food-focused visitors. The buffet has featured Durban chicken, African-spiced beef, tamarind barbecue ribs, soups, salads, and a variety of vegetables, grains, and side dishes.
Familiar choices such as pasta, chicken bites, and macaroni and cheese make the buffet more approachable for children.
Disney’s published prices have listed breakfast at approximately $39 per adult and $23 per child, with dinner around $58 per adult and $34 per child, before tax and gratuity. Prices can change.
I would choose Boma breakfast for a family with selective eaters or a relaxed morning at the resort. Dinner is my preference when the goal is to sample a wider range of African-inspired flavors.
My recommendation: Boma is the most versatile sit-down restaurant at Jambo House, especially for larger families and groups with different tastes. Make a reservation if you want a particular meal time.

Jiko – The Cooking Place: Best Signature Dining and Special Dinner
Location: Jambo House | Meal: Dinner | Dining: Signature table service
Jiko is the restaurant I would book for a special evening at Animal Kingdom Lodge.
It has a more sophisticated atmosphere than Boma, with warm lighting, wood-burning ovens, and a dining room designed around the colors of an African sunset.
The menu features African, Indian, and Mediterranean influences, with dishes built around steak, seafood, chicken, seasonal ingredients, and plant-based preparations.
One of its best-known dishes is oak-grilled filet mignon. Depending on the seasonal menu, you’ll also find creatively prepared fish, slow-cooked meats, and flatbreads.
Jiko also has a notable South African wine selection, making it particularly appealing for guests who enjoy pairing food with wine.
Unlike Boma, Jiko is an à la carte restaurant. You order individual dishes rather than paying a fixed buffet price, so the total depends on what you choose.
I would allow time for a relaxed dinner rather than rushing through the experience between other plans. Jiko is best appreciated when the restaurant itself is the evening’s main event.
Jiko is also a Disney Signature Dining location with a dress code. Clothing should be clean and neat, and swimwear is not appropriate.
My recommendation: Jiko is the best choice for a special dinner, couples, and food-focused travelers who want a quieter upscale experience. If you’re traveling with children who would prefer a buffet, Boma is usually the easier option.

The Mara: Best Quick-Service Restaurant at Animal Kingdom Lodge

The Mara is Animal Kingdom Lodge’s main quick-service restaurant and one of the most convenient places to eat if you’re staying at Jambo House.
It’s not intended to compete with Sanaa or Jiko as a destination restaurant. Instead, it offers casual food without requiring an advance dining reservation.
The menu includes breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and bowls, along with snacks and desserts.
One of the more memorable treats is the Zebra Domes dessert, a chocolate mousse specialty associated with Animal Kingdom Lodge.
The Mara has indoor dining space and is especially useful for grabbing a quick breakfast before going to the theme parks or having an easy dinner after returning to the resort.
For families, the flexibility matters. You don’t need to coordinate a reservation or commit to a long meal when everyone is tired after a park day.
My recommendation: The Mara is ideal for convenience, but I wouldn’t travel across Walt Disney World specifically to eat here. If you’re making a special trip to Animal Kingdom Lodge, choose Sanaa, Boma, or Jiko instead.
Lounges and Pool Bars at Animal Kingdom Lodge
Not every Animal Kingdom Lodge dining option is a full restaurant. The resort also has several lounges and pool bars that are useful for drinks, appetizers, and casual food.
Victoria Falls Lounge at Jambo House
Victoria Falls Lounge overlooks the Boma dining area and offers a relaxed setting for drinks in the evening.
The lounge serves cocktails, wine, beer, and a selection of food. It works particularly well as a place to relax before or after dinner.
I would choose Victoria Falls when staying at Jambo House and wanting to enjoy the atmosphere without booking another full restaurant meal.
Cape Town Lounge and Wine Bar at Jambo House
Cape Town Lounge and Wine Bar is located near Jiko and focuses on South African wines, cocktails, and appetizers.
It makes the most sense as part of a Jiko evening, particularly if you want a drink before dinner.
I wouldn’t choose it instead of Boma or Sanaa for a complete meal, but it’s a good addition for adults who enjoy the resort’s wine selection.
Sanaa Lounge at Kidani Village
Sanaa Lounge offers a more casual alternative to a full meal at Sanaa.
Located in the same restaurant area, it serves African wines, specialty drinks, appetizers, and lighter food.
Disney lists Sanaa Lounge seating as first-come, first-served. If you don’t have a restaurant reservation and are interested in a lighter meal, it’s worth checking whether seating is available.
However, I wouldn’t assume that a lounge visit guarantees a savanna-facing table or access to the complete Sanaa dinner experience.
Uzima Springs Pool Bar at Jambo House
Uzima Springs Pool Bar is the casual poolside location at Jambo House.
It’s useful for drinks, snacks, and a casual bite while enjoying the Uzima Springs Pool area.
I wouldn’t rank it alongside Sanaa or Jiko for restaurant quality, but it serves a practical purpose for resort guests who don’t want to leave the pool area for lunch.
Maji Pool Bar at Kidani Village
Maji Pool Bar is the equivalent casual dining option at Kidani Village, near the Samawati Springs Pool.
Unlike a bar that serves only drinks, Maji also offers substantial quick-service food. Its menu has included chicken sandwiches, flatbreads, salads, grain bowls, hot dogs, and other casual meals.
Disney’s published menu has listed options such as a Naan Pocket Chicken Club around $13.50 and a Caesar salad with chermoula shrimp around $14.
This makes Maji a useful option for Kidani Village guests who need a casual lunch without traveling to Jambo House or booking Sanaa.
Pool bars have their own operating schedules and may have access arrangements related to the resort pool areas. Check current availability before visiting specifically for food.
How Much Do Animal Kingdom Lodge Restaurants Cost?
Dining at Animal Kingdom Lodge ranges from relatively inexpensive quick-service meals to signature dinners and premium buffets.

If your goal is saving money, The Mara and Maji Pool Bar are the more economical choices. Sanaa can be a reasonable middle ground, especially at lunch, while Boma and Jiko are better treated as planned dining experiences.
Which Animal Kingdom Lodge Restaurant Has a Savanna View?
Sanaa at Kidani Village is the best Animal Kingdom Lodge restaurant for dining with views of the savanna. Its windows overlook the Sunset Savanna, where animals may be visible during the day.
If seeing giraffes, zebras, or other wildlife while eating is a major priority, I would choose Sanaa over Boma or Jiko.
It’s important to understand that Animal Kingdom Lodge’s restaurants don’t all have direct animal-viewing windows.
Boma is an indoor marketplace-style buffet, while Jiko emphasizes its dining room, cuisine, and sunset-inspired atmosphere. Neither should be booked with the expectation of watching giraffes from your table.
Even at Sanaa, animals aren’t guaranteed to be visible, and you may not receive a window table. Fortunately, both Jambo House and Kidani Village have public savanna-viewing areas where guests can enjoy the wildlife before or after their meal.
Best Animal Kingdom Lodge Restaurant for Breakfast
For a substantial sit-down breakfast, I would choose Boma at Jambo House. Its buffet is especially convenient for families who want a wide variety of foods before starting their day.
For a faster breakfast at Jambo House, The Mara is the more practical option.
At Kidani Village, Sanaa offers a quick-service breakfast during morning hours, giving villa guests an option without traveling to the main lodge.
Jiko is a dinner-only restaurant, so it shouldn’t be included in your breakfast plans.
Can You Eat at Animal Kingdom Lodge Without Staying There?
You don’t have to stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to eat at its restaurants.
Visitors staying at other Disney World resorts or elsewhere in Orlando can make dining reservations at Sanaa, Boma, or Jiko, subject to availability.
You also don’t need an Animal Kingdom theme park ticket because these restaurants are located at the resort hotel, outside the theme park.
If you’re making a special trip to the lodge, I would reserve Sanaa, Boma, or Jiko rather than travel across Walt Disney World for a basic quick-service meal.
Disney generally opens restaurant reservations 60 days in advance. Eligible Disney Resort hotel guests can make reservations for their length of stay, up to 10 nights, starting 60 days before arrival.
Reservations are particularly worthwhile if you’re planning an evening at Jiko or trying to secure Sanaa at a convenient time.

How to Get to Animal Kingdom Lodge Restaurants
Animal Kingdom Lodge is near Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, but you cannot walk directly between the park and the resort.
If you’re visiting the park and want to eat at the lodge, you can use Disney resort transportation or drive to the hotel.
Remember that Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Animal Kingdom theme park are different destinations. A restaurant reservation at the lodge does not place you inside the theme park.
Once you arrive at the resort, make sure you’re at the correct building. Boma, Jiko, and The Mara are at Jambo House, while Sanaa is at Kidani Village.
The two buildings are connected by a walking path and internal shuttle service, but I would still allow additional travel time if you’re dining at the opposite building from where you arrive.
For most visitors spending only one day inside the theme park, I would recommend Animal Kingdom Lodge as a meal destination after leaving the park instead of interrupting the middle of the day.
