Animal Kingdom’s best attractions are not only rides. Some of the strongest experiences are safaris, shows, animal trails, and themed areas that reward you for slowing down. That is why I would not rank this park purely by thrill level.
If it is your first visit, build your day around the top few attractions below, then fill in the rest based on wait times, heat, and show schedules.
1. Avatar Flight of Passage
Avatar Flight of Passage is the Animal Kingdom attraction I would prioritize first. It is the biggest headliner in the park, and it usually has one of the longest waits.
The ride is a flying simulator through Pandora, but it feels more physical and emotional than a standard screen-based attraction. Even if you are not a huge Avatar fan, the scale, movement, and visuals make it one of the most memorable experiences at Disney World.

2. Kilimanjaro Safaris
Kilimanjaro Safaris is the attraction that makes Animal Kingdom feel like Animal Kingdom. I like doing it early because the animals often seem more active, the light is better, and the heat has not fully settled in yet.
This is not a thrill ride, but it is one of the park’s most important experiences. Every ride is a little different. Sometimes the giraffes are close to the vehicle, sometimes the rhinos are the highlight, and sometimes the whole safari feels quieter and more spread out.
If you only have time for a few attractions, I would not skip the safari. It is one of the biggest reasons Animal Kingdom feels like more than a normal theme park.
3. Expedition Everest
Expedition Everest is the best thrill ride at Animal Kingdom. It has a great mountain setting, a detailed queue, a fun story, and enough intensity to make it exciting without being too extreme for most coaster fans.

Festival of the Lion King deserves to be high on this list because it adds energy to the day in a way rides cannot. It is colorful, polished, lively, and easy to enjoy with almost any group.
I like using this show as a real break, not as filler. Animal Kingdom can feel hot and spread out, so sitting down for a major live show can reset the whole day.

Na’vi River Journey is beautiful, calm, and atmospheric, but I would not wait a very long time for it. The glowing rainforest, music, and Shaman figure are the highlights, but the ride is short and gentle.
I rank it this high because it is still one of the main Pandora attractions and it works well for families, first-time visitors, and guests who do not want an intense simulator.

6. Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!
Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! is a strong indoor show and a smart midday attraction. It gives you air-conditioning, seating, and a full production without making the day feel like you are just taking a break.
The puppetry, music, and staging make it more creative than many guests expect. I would not choose it over the top rides if you are short on time, but on a full Animal Kingdom day, it is absolutely worth considering.
7. Maharajah Jungle Trek
Maharajah Jungle Trek is one of the best slower attractions in the park. It is easy to skip because it does not have a ride vehicle or posted wait time, but that is part of what makes it valuable.
The trail has a great atmosphere, with ruins, shaded paths, animal viewing areas, and a quieter pace. The tigers are the obvious draw, but the overall setting is what makes it memorable.
I would do this while you are already in Asia, especially after Expedition Everest or before taking a slower break.
8. Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail
Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail pairs naturally with Kilimanjaro Safaris because both are in Africa. I like doing them together instead of crossing the park again later.
The gorilla viewing area is the highlight, but the trail also includes birds, smaller animals, and shaded viewing areas. It is a good reminder that Animal Kingdom is not only about rides.

9. Kali River Rapids
Kali River Rapids is fun, but I rank it lower because it depends heavily on the weather and whether you actually want to get wet. On a hot day, it can be perfect. On a cooler day, or before a dining reservation, it can be inconvenient.
The ride is short, but the setting is well done and the drop can absolutely soak you depending on where you sit. I would ride it if your group likes water rides, but I would not make it one of my first priorities.

10. Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
Zootopia: Better Zoogether! is a good indoor, family-friendly attraction near the Tree of Life. I would not plan the whole day around it, but it can fit well when you are already near Discovery Island.
This is the kind of attraction I would do when the timing is convenient. It gives you a break, adds a character-driven experience, and helps round out the park without requiring a major time commitment.

11. Wildlife Express Train and Rafiki’s Planet Watch
The Wildlife Express Train and Rafiki’s Planet Watch are worth doing if you have extra time, but I would not put them near the top of a first-time priority list.
The reason is time. You are committing to the train ride, the walk, the exhibits, and the return trip. That can be a nice change of pace if you like animal care, drawing experiences, or quieter areas, but it can also take more time than expected.
I would save this for a longer Animal Kingdom day, not a short visit focused on the biggest attractions.
12. Feathered Friends in Flight
Feathered Friends in Flight is a relaxed bird show that fits the park well. It is not as essential as Festival of the Lion King or Finding Nemo, but it adds variety and gives Animal Kingdom more of its nature-focused personality.
I would see it if the showtime works and you are already nearby. It is a nice bonus, but not something I would build the whole day around.
Best Animal Kingdom Attractions for First-Time Visitors
For a first visit, I would not try to do everything equally. Animal Kingdom is better when you prioritize the attractions that feel most unique to the park, then use the rest of the day for trails, shows, food, and exploring.
My first-time visitor priority list would be:

- Expedition Everest
- Festival of the Lion King
- Na’vi River Journey
- Maharajah Jungle Trek or Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail

That gives you the major ride, the safari, the best coaster, a top show, Pandora atmosphere, and at least one animal trail. It feels much more balanced than only chasing rides.

You can do the major Animal Kingdom attractions in one day if you arrive early and do not overplan every trail, show, and ride. The park is manageable, but walking, heat, and showtimes can slow you down.
On a full day, I would expect to do the major rides, the safari, one or two trails, and at least one show without feeling too rushed. On a half day, I would focus on Flight of Passage, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest, and either a show or a trail.
