Disney Princess Ages: How Old Is Each Official Princess?

The official Disney Princess lineup currently includes 13 characters, and most of them are teenagers in their original movies. Aurora and Ariel are 16, Rapunzel is 18, and Moana is 16 in her first film. Other ages, including Cinderella at 19 and Belle at 17, are widely cited but are not stated on Disney’s current character profiles.

That difference matters because Disney Princess age lists often present every number as equally official when the source behind each age is not equally strong.

I checked the current official Disney Princess lineup, Disney film information, Disney Books and other first-party Disney sources to separate ages that are clearly established from ages that are mainly repeated in character reference material.

Disney Princess Ages at a Glance

Disney PrincessAge in Original StoryHow Certain Is It?
Snow White14Widely cited, but not stated on Disney’s current Princess profile
Cinderella19Widely cited, but not stated in the film or current Disney profile
Aurora16Confirmed by the film
Ariel16Confirmed by the film and Disney
Belle17Widely cited, but not stated in the film or current Disney profile
Jasmine15Commonly cited and supported by the film’s approaching-birthday storyline
PocahontasAbout 18Commonly cited production age, not stated in the film
Mulan16Widely cited, but not stated in the film or current Disney profile
Tiana19Widely documented in character and production references
Rapunzel18Confirmed by Disney
Merida16Widely cited; Pixar officially describes her as a teenager
Moana16Confirmed by Disney for the original film
RayaAbout 18Commonly cited, but Disney’s current profile does not give an exact age

The ages above refer to the characters in their original feature-film stories. Sequels and later stories can move a character forward in time, so a Princess is not necessarily the same age in every appearance.

Which Disney Princess Ages Are Actually Confirmed?

A few ages are much easier to verify from Disney itself than others.

Aurora Is 16

Aurora’s age is built directly into the story of Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent’s curse is tied to Aurora’s sixteenth birthday, and the events of the film bring her to that birthday.

Ariel Is 16

Ariel’s age is one of the clearest in the Disney Princess lineup. King Triton identifies her as 16 in The Little Mermaid, and Disney’s own D23 material also describes Ariel as a 16-year-old mermaid.

Rapunzel Is 18

Rapunzel leaves her tower around her eighteenth birthday. Disney-published Tangled books specifically describe the floating lights appearing on her 18th birthday.

Moana Is 16 in the First Movie

Disney has directly identified Moana as 16 during the events of the original Moana. That makes hers another age I would consider firmly established.

How Old Is Snow White?

Snow White is generally listed as 14 years old in Disney character-age references, making her the youngest member of the standard Disney Princess age list.

However, I would be careful with claims that Disney’s current official Snow White profile explicitly confirms 14. It does not currently publish her age.

There is also a separate complication now that Disney has multiple versions of Snow White. This page refers to the character in Disney’s 1937 animated film, not Rachel Zegler’s live-action interpretation or later Disney books inspired by that version.

If you’re tracing the history of the Princess lineup, Snow White is also the first Disney Princess. My guide to the first Disney Princess movie covers her place in Disney history.

How Old Is Cinderella?

Cinderella is commonly listed as 19 years old in Disney Princess age lists.

Unlike Ariel or Aurora, though, Cinderella’s exact age is not spoken in Disney’s 1950 animated film, and Disney’s current official Cinderella profile does not list an age.

So I would describe 19 as Cinderella’s commonly accepted character age rather than saying the movie itself confirms it.

How Old Is Mulan?

Mulan is generally listed as 16 years old during the original animated movie.

Her exact age is not stated in the film, and Disney’s current Mulan profile focuses on her character and story rather than providing a numerical age.

That makes 16 useful for a Princess age list, but I would not label it as an age clearly spoken or displayed in the movie.

How Old Is Tiana?

Tiana is generally identified as 19 years old during the main events of The Princess and the Frog.

That puts her among the older characters in the official Disney Princess lineup and fits the film’s storyline, where she is already working multiple jobs and saving to open her own restaurant.

Who Is the Youngest Disney Princess?

Snow White is generally considered the youngest Disney Princess at 14 years old.

The next youngest is Jasmine, commonly listed at 15, followed by several Princesses generally placed at 16, including Aurora, Ariel, Mulan, Merida and Moana.

That means many of the best-known Disney Princess stories center on characters who are still teenagers.

Who Is the Oldest Disney Princess?

If we’re comparing the ages generally assigned to the official Princesses in their original films, Cinderella and Tiana are usually the oldest at 19.

Rapunzel is 18, while Pocahontas and Raya are also commonly placed around 18.

This is another reason I would not simply call Tiana “the oldest Disney Princess” without context. The exact ages of several characters are less firmly documented than the ages of Ariel, Aurora, Rapunzel and Moana.

The Current Official Disney Princess Lineup Has 13 Characters

Disney’s current Princess website features:

  • Snow White
  • Cinderella
  • Aurora
  • Ariel
  • Belle
  • Jasmine
  • Pocahontas
  • Mulan
  • Tiana
  • Rapunzel
  • Merida
  • Moana
  • Raya

Raya is therefore part of the current official lineup and should be included in a complete Disney Princess age list.

What About Anna and Elsa?

Anna and Elsa are Disney royalty, but they are not currently members of the branded Disney Princess lineup.

They remain part of the separate Frozen franchise rather than being folded into the official Princess roster.

The same is true of several characters who are sometimes added to unofficial or honorary Princess lists.

If that’s the list you’re looking for, see why Anna and Elsa are not official Disney Princesses or my guide to honorary Disney Princesses.

Why Disney Princess Ages Online Don’t Always Match

If you’ve seen different Disney Princess age charts online, it does not necessarily mean one site made a simple typo.

Disney handles the ages differently from character to character.

  • Some ages are directly stated or central to the movie, such as Aurora being 16 and Rapunzel turning 18.
  • Some have been established in Disney-produced or licensed reference material but are not stated in the movie.
  • Some are approximate ages drawn from production information or character references.
  • Sequels can take place later, meaning the same character may be older in a later movie.

For that reason, I would be skeptical of any chart that labels every Disney Princess age as equally “official” without explaining the source.

For the broader roster, films and character backgrounds, my complete Disney Princess guide covers all 13 characters in the current lineup.
