Hotels within walking distance to Shanghai Disneyland are more limited than many hotel lists suggest. The three practical choices are Meliá Shanghai Parkside, Toy Story Hotel, and Shanghai Disneyland Hotel. Meliá and the two Disney hotels let you reach the resort on foot, although the exact walk depends on the entrance and route you use.
Novotel Shanghai Clover and Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone are nearby, but I would not book either one expecting a 20- or 25-minute walk to the park gates. Both are better treated as shuttle hotels.
If walking is only one part of your decision, start with my broader comparison of Shanghai Disneyland hotels. This guide stays focused on which hotels you can realistically walk from.
Hotels Within Walking Distance to Shanghai Disneyland: The Short List
- Meliá Shanghai Parkside: Approximately 10 to 15 minutes on foot and the clearest off-site walking option.
- Toy Story Hotel: About 10 minutes using the route I took to the Disneytown side of the park.
- Shanghai Disneyland Hotel: Roughly 10 to 15 minutes depending on the route, with a hotel shuttle and water taxi also available.
Walking times are estimates, not guarantees. Security queues, the exact hotel room location, temporary path changes, and the entrance you use can all add time. I would also check the current route in Amap or Baidu Maps when you arrive rather than relying only on a Western mapping app in China.
Meliá Shanghai Parkside Is the Clearest Off-Site Walk
Meliá describes Shanghai Parkside as a short walk from Disneyland Park. In practice, I would allow about 10 to 15 minutes from the hotel grounds to the resort entrance, then leave additional time for security.
This is the most useful correction to the old list. Meliá was missing entirely, even though it is a more credible walk-to-Disneyland hotel than either Novotel or the Courtyard. Its location near the west side of the resort makes it the best fit for someone who wants an off-site room without depending on a scheduled shuttle.
The tradeoff is that Meliá is not a Disney-owned hotel. Do not assume a room there includes the same hotel-guest entrance privileges, early-access benefits, or transportation options as the two official hotels. Compare the total price and perks, especially if you are also considering a Shanghai Disneyland hotel and ticket package.
Toy Story Hotel Has the Walk I Actually Used

Toy Story Hotel is where I stayed, and the walk to the Disneytown side of the park took me about 10 minutes. Disney currently calls the hotel a “short stroll” from Shanghai Disneyland, and there is also a complimentary hotel shuttle when you do not want to walk.
The walk is one reason I think Toy Story Hotel is a strong compromise. It is typically the less expensive of the two Disney hotels, its Pixar theming is especially fun for younger children, and registered hotel guests can use Disney’s priority entrance in Disneytown when eligible. Disney notes that everyone registered in the room must enter the turnstiles together.
I would still use the shuttle at the end of a long day if children are tired or the weather is hot or wet. “Walkable” does not mean that walking is always the fastest or easiest option. My full Toy Story Hotel guide covers the rooms, theming, and overall stay in more detail.
Shanghai Disneyland Hotel Gives You Three Ways to the Park

Shanghai Disneyland Hotel sits across Wishing Star Lake from the theme park. I visited the hotel for breakfast and to explore the property, and its setting feels much calmer and more polished than Toy Story Hotel.
You can walk toward Disneytown, take the hotel shuttle, or use the complimentary water taxi when it is operating. Allow roughly 10 to 15 minutes if you walk, but do not describe the hotel as having a direct park entrance. The lake and resort layout still separate the hotel from the turnstiles.
The real advantage is choice. Walking can be pleasant in good weather, the shuttle is practical at park opening, and the water taxi makes the trip feel like part of the resort experience. Disney’s current priority-entrance guidance confirms that hotel guests can reach Disneytown on foot, by ferry, or by hotel shuttle.

Novotel and Courtyard Are Nearby, Not Walk-to-Park Hotels
The words “near Shanghai Disney Resort” can be misleading. A distance to the resort boundary is not the same as a walking route to the security checkpoint or park entrance. These two hotels remain useful choices, but their shuttles are the convenience to evaluate.
Novotel Shanghai Clover

Accor places Novotel Shanghai Clover about 3.5 kilometers from Shanghai Disney and describes it as a five-minute drive. The hotel offers a free scheduled Disney shuttle and is about 200 meters from Kangxin Highway Station, one Metro Line 11 stop from Disney Resort Station.
That is convenient, but it is not a 20-minute walk to the park. Book Novotel for its shuttle, metro access, family rooms, and seasonal outdoor pool, not because you plan to walk to Disneyland every morning.
Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone

Marriott says the Courtyard is about 900 meters from Shanghai Disney Resort and a three- to five-minute drive away. That 900-meter figure should not be converted into a walk to the park gates. The usable road and pedestrian route is longer.
The hotel provides a complimentary Disney shuttle, and Marriott advises guests to contact the concierge in advance for schedules and reservations. The Courtyard can work well if you value a familiar international brand, larger rooms, or airport transportation, but I would plan around the shuttle rather than the old 25-minute walking claim.
How Far Apart Are the Courtyard and Novotel Shanghai Clover?
The Courtyard and Novotel Shanghai Clover are approximately 1.3 kilometers, or 0.8 miles, apart in a straight line based on the GPS coordinates published by Marriott and Accor. A real road route is slightly longer, so a reasonable estimate is about 15 to 20 minutes on foot.
This is an approximate hotel-to-hotel calculation, not a guaranteed pedestrian route. Check Amap or Baidu Maps for the current entrance and walking directions before setting out. More importantly, neither hotel is close enough to make walking to Shanghai Disneyland the sensible daily plan.
Which One I Would Choose for a Walking-First Trip
Choose Meliá Shanghai Parkside if your priority is a straightforward off-site walk. Choose Toy Story Hotel if you want the best balance of Disney perks, theming, and a walk I have personally made. Choose Shanghai Disneyland Hotel if you prefer a more upscale stay and like having walking, shuttle, and ferry options.
Choose Novotel or the Courtyard only if their price, room type, or transportation works better for you. Both can be convenient Shanghai Disneyland hotels, but the shuttle should be part of your plan from the start.
