Fort Wilderness Movie Schedule: Tonight’s Feature and Hidden Perks

One of the most underrated experiences at Walt Disney World is winding down the day at Fort Wilderness with a campfire, some marshmallows, and a free outdoor movie. The Fort Wilderness movie schedule changes regularly, so it’s always smart to check the current lineup before you go. I just got back from a week at the campground and wanted to share everything you need to know, plus a few tips to make the most of your night.

Whether you’re staying in a tent, a cabin, an RV, or just visiting for the evening, catching a movie under the stars is a fun, low-key way to enjoy Disney without needing a park ticket. It’s a great option if you want a slower-paced evening after a busy day in the parks, or if you’re looking for free entertainment that still feels unique and distinctly Disney.

Fort Wilderness Movie Schedule: What to Expect

The Fort Wilderness movie schedule is updated monthly and typically features Disney animated films or family favorites every night of the week.

The movies start after sundown, usually around 8:00 PM depending on the season and sunset time. Most nights also include the Chip ‘n’ Dale Campfire Sing-Along beforehand, which is worth catching even if you don’t have kids. It’s interactive, funny, and full of energy, and yes—Chip and Dale actually show up for meet-and-greets.

You can find the most up-to-date movie listings by asking at the front desk, checking the activity board near the Meadow Trading Post, scanning the QR code on campground flyers, or calling the resort directly. The schedule may be posted online, but Disney doesn’t always keep those pages updated in real time, so asking a Cast Member is usually your best bet.

Where It Happens

The movies are shown on a large screen in the outdoor theater area near the Meadow Recreation Area, right next to the campfire pits and benches. This area is the main hub for evening activities and is easy to reach from anywhere in the campground. If you’re not within walking distance, the internal bus system can drop you off just a short walk away.

There are some wooden benches available, but they fill up fast on weekends and during peak seasons. Many families bring their own foldable camp chairs, beach mats, or picnic blankets. If you’re visiting during a cooler month, consider bringing a hoodie or light blanket—temperatures can drop quickly once the sun goes down.

Current Movie Lineup

Here’s a sample of what was playing during my stay in June:

  • Monday: The Princess and the Frog
  • Tuesday: Finding Dory
  • Wednesday: Zootopia
  • Thursday: The Incredibles
  • Friday: Moana
  • Saturday: Tangled
  • Sunday: Frozen II

Keep in mind that the lineup may shift due to weather or other events. If you’re visiting during hurricane season, it’s a good idea to read up on how Disney World handles tropical storms: Disney World tropical storm guide.

Key Points: How to Make the Most of It

  • Arrive early for the campfire: The Chip ‘n’ Dale Campfire Sing-Along usually starts about 30-45 minutes before the movie. There are two fire pits going, and you can roast marshmallows or buy a s’mores kit from the Chuckwagon Snack Bar. Kids get to sing along to classic campfire songs and even take photos with the chipmunks.
  • Bring your own seating and snacks: While some seating is provided, you’ll be more comfortable with a blanket or your own camp chairs. Outside snacks are welcome, and it’s a good chance to enjoy something from your cooler. We brought popcorn and drinks in reusable cups.
  • Double-check the schedule: Movie titles and times can change last-minute, especially if there’s rain in the forecast. Always confirm with the front desk, the activity board, or by calling the resort directly.

Who Can Attend (Even If You’re Not Staying There)

One of the best parts? You don’t need to be staying at Fort Wilderness to enjoy the movie. Anyone can attend. If you’re staying at another Disney resort or even off-property, you can take Disney transportation or drive to the campground and park in the main lot near the Outpost. From there, hop on an internal bus headed to the Meadow Trading Post area.

Be aware that while it’s open to all, the parking area has limited capacity. If you’re not a guest at Fort Wilderness, you may be asked to show a dining reservation or have another reason to be on property. A dinner reservation at Trail’s End or P&J’s Southern Takeout is a good workaround if you’re worried about being turned away at the gate.

Combining the Movie Night with Other Fort Wilderness Fun

If you have the time, there’s plenty to do at Fort Wilderness before the movie starts. The resort is one of Disney World’s most unique properties, offering a rustic setting that feels far removed from the crowds of Magic Kingdom. You can rent bikes, go canoeing, take a horseback ride, or just explore the scenic trails and wooded areas.

For families, the pony rides at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch are a huge hit. You can also check out the blacksmith area and learn how Disney cares for its horses. If you’re traveling with kids, the playground near the Meadow area is a nice way to burn off some energy before settling in for the movie.

Dining-wise, there’s something really cozy about grabbing fried chicken or barbecue from P&J’s Southern Takeout and bringing it with you to the movie area. We did this one night and it made the experience feel like a picnic with entertainment. It’s also a great way to avoid long waits at park restaurants.

If you’re planning your trip during a busier season, be sure to check out what crowds are like month-by-month. Here’s a useful post on how busy Disney World is in April to help you strategize.

Final Tips from My Last Visit

On our last visit, we packed a small cooler, brought our own s’mores supplies from Garden Grocer, and brought foldable camp chairs. It felt relaxed and easy—a rare thing at Disney World. We even saw a few deer wandering near the woods during the movie. The whole experience had that campground charm you rarely find in theme parks.

If you’re traveling with kids or anyone with sensory needs, it’s worth knowing that the volume is generally reasonable and not overwhelming. Still, if you need accommodations, consider learning about the Disability Access Pass, which helps guests plan better for accessible experiences across Walt Disney World.
