Disneyland Magic Key passes do not have a fixed annual sale date. Disney sells new passes periodically and can limit or pause sales of individual Magic Key types at any time.
Right now, Disneyland is offering Magic Key purchases online, so I would always check current availability before waiting for some future Magic Key sale date.
If the pass you want isn’t available, there unfortunately isn’t a reliable calendar that tells us exactly when Disney will put it back on sale. What Disney does provide is a fairly clear process for what happens when a new Magic Key sale launches.
Are Disneyland Magic Key Passes on Sale Right Now?
Disneyland is currently offering Magic Key passes for purchase online.
That doesn’t necessarily mean every pass type will remain available. Disney states that the quantity of Magic Key passes and individual pass types can be limited, and a particular pass can be unavailable for new purchases even while other passes remain on sale.
The first thing I would do is check Disney’s official Magic Key page. If Disney is currently selling the pass you want, there is no reason to wait for a future sales event.
The current Magic Key lineup includes Inspire, Believe, Explore and Imagine. Imagine is restricted to Southern California residents living in eligible ZIP codes.
There Is No Set Magic Key Sale Schedule
This is the frustrating part if the pass you want is unavailable.
Disney does not publish something like, “Magic Keys always return in January” or “new passes go on sale twice a year.”
Instead, Disney describes Magic Key passes as limited in availability and says they are made available for sale periodically.
Because of that, I would not try to predict the next Magic Key sale from previous years. Past sale dates can tell you what Disney has done before, but they don’t establish a future schedule.
Disney recommends checking its Magic Key page, following the official Disneyland Magic Key social accounts, or signing up for email notifications if you want to know when another sale is announced.
What Time Do Magic Key Passes Go on Sale?
When Disneyland holds a new Magic Key sales launch that uses its online queue, Disney currently says the waiting room opens no earlier than 8:45 AM on launch day and sales begin no earlier than 9:00 AM.
I would pay attention to the phrase “no earlier than.” Disney specifically says those times can change without notice, so I wouldn’t assume every future sale will begin at exactly 9:00 AM.
Disney displays pass availability and an estimated wait time inside the waiting room. Depending on the sale, you may also be given the option to receive an email when it’s your turn.
Once your turn comes up, Disney currently gives you 10 minutes to enter the purchase site before you lose your place in the queue.
How a New Magic Key Sale Actually Works
I think it’s more useful to understand Disney’s official process than to rely on tricks such as opening several browsers or constantly refreshing the page.
For a Magic Key sale launch, new pass sales are handled online. Disney initially uses a waiting room to manage demand.
The basic process is:
- Sign in to your MyDisney account.
- Make sure your address is correct, especially if you need California-resident payment options or qualify for the Imagine Key.
- Decide which pass you want before the sale begins.
- Have the name and birth date for each person whose pass you’re purchasing.
- Enter Disney’s waiting room when it opens.
- Wait for Disney to move you into the purchase process.
- Complete the purchase while the pass type you want is still available.
Disney allows up to 10 Magic Key passes in a purchase, and each pass has to be assigned to an individual at the time of purchase.
Getting Into the Queue Does Not Guarantee a Magic Key
This is probably the most important thing to understand before a major Magic Key sales day.
Entering Disney’s waiting room does not guarantee that you’ll be able to buy a pass.
The pass type you want can become unavailable before your turn arrives. Disney shows pass availability in the waiting room so you can see what’s still being offered while you’re waiting.
That’s why I would decide in advance whether I’m willing to buy a different Magic Key if my first choice disappears.

What If the Magic Key You Want Is Sold Out?
If a Magic Key pass type is unavailable, I would not assume that repeatedly refreshing the purchase page will make it reappear.
Disney can make pass types unavailable from time to time and does not publish a guaranteed restock schedule.
At that point, I would:
- check whether another Magic Key tier works for my budget and visiting schedule,
- keep an eye on Disney’s official Magic Key page,
- sign up for Disney’s Magic Key email notifications, and
- wait for Disney to announce new availability rather than relying on an unofficial predicted sale date.
The important distinction is that a Magic Key being unavailable today does not mean Disney has discontinued the entire Magic Key program. Individual passes can move in and out of new-sale availability.
Can One Magic Key Sell Out While Others Are Available?
Yes. Disney can limit the quantity of individual pass types rather than treating all Magic Keys as one pool.
So you might find that one Magic Key is unavailable while another can still be purchased.
I wouldn’t buy a more expensive pass purely because it’s the only one currently available, though. Blockout dates and benefits vary enough that I would first make sure the alternative pass actually fits the way I visit Disneyland.
Renewing a Magic Key Is Different From Buying a New One
If you already have a Magic Key, the process is different from waiting for new pass sales.
Disney currently allows eligible Magic Key holders to renew during their 30-day renewal window.
The pass choices available for renewal may differ from what’s available to someone trying to purchase a new Magic Key. Disney specifically states that a pass type can sometimes be available only for renewals.
That means seeing someone renew a particular pass doesn’t necessarily mean that same pass is available for a brand-new purchase.
Can You Upgrade a Disneyland Ticket to a Magic Key?
If Magic Keys are currently on sale and you have an eligible Disneyland ticket, Disney may allow you to upgrade that ticket to an available Magic Key through the Disneyland app.
The important word is available. A ticket doesn’t give you access to a Magic Key pass type that Disney isn’t currently offering for upgrade.
Disney says eligible guests can look under the Tickets and Passes section of the Disneyland app for the upgrade option.
Before You Buy, Remember That a Magic Key Still Requires Reservations
Getting the pass is only the first part of the system.
Magic Key admission is reservation-based. Disney allocates a limited number of park reservations to Magic Key holders, and a pass doesn’t guarantee entry even on a date that isn’t blocked out.
I would therefore look at the current reservation rules and blockout calendar before spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a pass.

How I Would Watch for the Next Magic Key Sale
If the Magic Key I wanted wasn’t available, I wouldn’t spend every morning refreshing Disneyland’s website.
I would sign up for Disney’s Magic Key emails, follow Disneyland’s official Magic Key accounts, and periodically check the official Magic Key purchase page.
Once Disney actually announces a new sale date, that’s when I would prepare my account information, know exactly which pass I want and be ready for the online waiting room.
