Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel vs Hollywood Hotel: Which to Choose?

If you're planning a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland and debating between the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Hollywood Hotel, you're not alone. I had the same dilemma on my recent visit. Both offer unique perks and wildly different vibes, and depending on your travel style, budget, and expectations, one might clearly suit you better than the other.

In this post, I’ll walk you through my honest comparison of the two, based on personal experience staying at both properties. I'll also break down who each hotel is really for and where you'll get the best value.

So let’s get into the real differences in the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel vs Hollywood Hotel decision.

Before diving into the details, I recommend checking out the full overview of all Hong Kong Disneyland hotels if you’re still exploring your options.

Key Points

  • Choose the Disneyland Hotel if you want elegance, quieter ambiance, and closer access to premium dining and spa services.
  • Choose Hollywood Hotel if you’re traveling with kids who love pools, don’t mind a slightly longer walk or shuttle, and want a more budget-friendly stay.
  • Both hotels have the same perks like early park entry, character greetings, and free shuttles, so your choice comes down to atmosphere and budget.

Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel vs Hollywood Hotel: Main Differences

When comparing these two hotels, the differences become clear in atmosphere, room quality, food options, and price. I’ll walk you through each of these areas in more depth below.

Theme and Atmosphere

The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel feels like stepping into an upscale Victorian resort. It’s calm, classy, and designed to offer a more refined experience. The lobby alone is worth taking time to enjoy – grand chandeliers, elegant detailing, and live piano music in the evening created a sense of luxury I didn’t expect.

I found the outdoor areas to be especially peaceful. There’s a beautiful garden with a hedge maze and views out toward the water. It’s the kind of place where you can sit with a coffee and actually unwind, which isn’t something you always get at a theme park hotel.

Hollywood Hotel, in contrast, embraces a fun, nostalgic Art Deco vibe. The colors are brighter, the music more upbeat, and the atmosphere much more energetic. It felt like a good fit for families with younger kids or for travelers who plan to spend most of their time at the park rather than relaxing at the hotel.

That said, it can get loud in the lobby during peak times, especially with groups arriving or departing. The decor is charming but more playful than polished.

Rooms and Comfort

The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel rooms are well-appointed, spacious, and more premium in feel. The linens were higher quality, the furnishings more traditional, and the bathrooms more spacious compared to Hollywood Hotel.

A garden-view room cost us around $450 USD per night during the spring season. Rooms with sea views or club-level access can go well beyond $500 USD.

By contrast, the Hollywood Hotel rooms are simpler and smaller but still quite clean and comfortable. Ours cost about $280 USD per night – a solid value for an on-property Disney experience.

You’ll still get thoughtful Disney touches like themed slippers, in-room activities for kids, and cartoon channels on the TV. If you’re traveling with kids who don’t care much about luxury, the Hollywood Hotel rooms more than do the job.

Dining Options

This is one of the biggest differences between the two hotels.

The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel has fantastic dining options. Enchanted Garden Restaurant offers buffet-style meals with character greetings. It’s a popular spot, so definitely book ahead if you want to meet Mickey and friends without lining up in the parks.

Crystal Lotus, also located inside the hotel, serves Chinese fine dining with a creative twist – including dim sum shaped like Disney characters. It’s not cheap (about $40–50 USD per person), but it’s absolutely memorable.

Hollywood Hotel’s main dining spot is Chef Mickey, which is a casual buffet experience. It’s decent, but not particularly exciting in terms of food quality. Pricing is around $30–40 USD per person for breakfast or dinner buffets.

There’s also a casual outdoor grill and small convenience shop for snacks and light meals, but the dining options are much more limited compared to the Disneyland Hotel.

Location and Convenience

Both hotels are within the resort zone and are served by a free shuttle that runs every 10 to 15 minutes.

From the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, it took me just over 10 minutes to walk to the park entrance along a quiet, landscaped path. It was an easy and pleasant stroll.

The Hollywood Hotel is farther – around 18 to 20 minutes on foot – and the path isn't quite as scenic. That said, we mostly relied on the shuttle buses, which were always on time and took less than 5 minutes door to door.

Price and Value

There’s a clear price difference between the two.

Hollywood Hotel typically starts around $250 to $300 USD per night. It’s the more budget-friendly option for those who want an official Disney hotel experience without splurging.

The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, on the other hand, usually starts around $400 USD per night and can go much higher depending on the view and room type. Club-level and themed suites can push the nightly cost well above $600 USD.

Is it worth the extra cost? It depends. For a special trip, honeymoon, or relaxing vacation, I do think it’s worth paying extra for the added peace, dining, and luxury. But for most family trips where the hotel is just a place to sleep, Hollywood Hotel offers excellent value.

Activities and Perks

Both hotels give you access to key Disney perks:

  • Early park entry
  • Free shuttle to the park
  • In-room package delivery from the park shops
  • Character greetings

The big difference is in the extras offered.

The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel activities include lawn games, crafts, movie nights, and storytelling sessions. There’s also a beautiful indoor pool and a full spa.

If you’re traveling with younger kids, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and storytelling sessions are real highlights.

Hollywood Hotel has a large outdoor pool with a waterslide, a playground, and occasional outdoor movie screenings. It’s more active and casual in vibe.

Planning when to arrive? Check the hotel check-in times so you can time your arrival and drop off bags early if needed.

Which Should You Choose?

Here’s how I’d sum it up:

Go with the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel if you’re looking for a more peaceful, elegant, and relaxing experience. It’s perfect for couples, adult travelers, or families celebrating a special occasion. It’s more expensive, but you feel that extra quality in the service, rooms, and food.

Choose Hollywood Hotel if you want to save money, are traveling with energetic kids, or simply plan to be in the parks from open to close and just need a clean, fun place to crash.

You’ll still get the same perks, proximity, and general ease of staying on Disney property.
