What a Disneyland VIP Tour Really Costs

A Disneyland VIP Tour currently costs between $500 and $800 per hour, and the standard Disneyland Resort VIP Tour requires at least 7 hours. That puts the minimum tour cost at roughly $3,500 to $5,600, depending on the rate Disney quotes for your date.

That’s a lot of money for one day at Disneyland, but there is an important wrinkle: the price is for the tour rather than per person. Disneyland allows as many as 10 Guests, including infants, on a standard VIP Tour. For a larger group, the per-person math looks very different than it does for a couple.

Disneyland VIP Tour Cost for 7, 8, 9 or 10 Hours

Disney currently publishes a VIP Tour price range of $500 to $800 per hour. Prices vary by tour type and date, so there isn’t one fixed rate that applies every day.

The Cost Makes More Sense With a Larger Group

This is where I think the Disneyland VIP Tour becomes easier to understand. Disney charges for the tour rather than selling each person a separate VIP Tour spot.

If you filled all 10 spots and booked the 7-hour minimum, the published $500 to $800 hourly range works out like this:

Those numbers are just the tour charge divided between the group. They don’t represent the total price of a Disneyland vacation.

This is also why I wouldn’t describe the VIP Tour as something that’s necessarily “best for rich people” or only for a couple celebrating something special. Ten family members or friends splitting one tour can get much more value out of the same hourly charge than two people can.

What You Actually Get With the Disneyland VIP Tour

The real product you’re buying isn’t simply a person walking around Disneyland with you. The major advantage is being able to compress far more of the parks into the hours you have.

Disney currently lists these features for its standard Disneyland Resort VIP Tour:

• Expedited access to attractions, including classic Fantasyland attractions
• Reserved seating for parades and nighttime spectaculars
• A dedicated VIP Tour guide who helps navigate and organize the day
• Complimentary valet parking at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
• An exclusive VIP Tour collectible pin
• Access to purchase exclusive VIP Tour merchandise
• Assistance with booking available dining reservations and Character experiences

Availability still matters. I wouldn’t book the tour assuming that a guide can manufacture a sold-out dining reservation or guarantee that every attraction and entertainment offering will operate exactly as planned.

Does a VIP Tour Let You Skip Every Line?

Disney describes the benefit as expedited access, which is more accurate than saying you’ll simply walk onto every attraction.

The important part is that the VIP Tour gives your group much faster access to available attractions than you’d normally have standing in standby queues. Disney also confirms that you can ride an available attraction more than once during a tour, although you have to re-enter the queue for each ride.

I wouldn’t plan the day around promises such as “you’ll never wait more than 15 minutes” or expect every attraction to use exactly the same entry method. Attraction availability and operating conditions can change.

The Regular VIP Tour Isn’t the Same as the Land of Dreams Tour

Disney now offers another experience called the Land of Dreams Tour, and it’s easy to confuse the two when researching Disneyland VIP prices.

The standard Disneyland Resort VIP Tour lasts 7 to 10 hours and takes up to 10 Guests. The Land of Dreams Tour is a separate, more elaborate 12-hour experience for up to 6 Guests.

Land of Dreams adds benefits that aren’t listed as standard VIP Tour features, including complimentary Park Hopper admission, meals and snacks, two dedicated guides, a PhotoPass Capture Your Moment session and signature behind-the-scenes experiences.

So if you see reports of backstage access or meals being included with a Disneyland VIP experience, make sure they’re talking about the same tour you’re considering.

Don’t Forget Admission and Gratuity

The hourly tour cost should not be confused with the entire cost of visiting Disneyland.

Disney specifically advertises complimentary Park Hopper admission as an added feature of the Land of Dreams Tour rather than as one of the listed standard VIP Tour benefits. I would therefore confirm your required admission when booking the standard tour and make sure everyone in the group has the appropriate Disneyland admission and reservations for the day.

Disney also states that gratuities for VIP Guides are not included in the tour price. More importantly, Disney describes gratuity as discretionary and says it should reflect the quality of service. I wouldn’t automatically add a made-up percentage to the tour cost when budgeting.

Would I Pay for a Disneyland VIP Tour?

For two people, I find the math difficult to justify unless money is genuinely secondary to squeezing as much as possible into one day. A 7-hour tour at the published rates is already $3,500 to $5,600 before dividing that cost between only two people.

A group of eight or ten is a different calculation. At 10 people, that same 7-hour tour works out to roughly $350 to $560 per person for the tour itself. That’s still expensive, but you’re buying expedited attraction access, reserved entertainment viewing and a guide who’s organizing the park day for the entire group.

I would especially consider it when time is the scarce resource. If you only have one day at Disneyland and want to experience as much as possible, the ability to reduce the amount of the day spent waiting has real value.
