Are Dining Reservations Required at Disneyland?
Dining reservations are not required at every Disneyland Resort restaurant.
Most quick-service locations operate without reservations. You order at a counter, use mobile ordering when available or join the regular line.
Table-service restaurants may accept advance reservations, same-day reservations and walk-up guests. However, accepting walk-ups does not mean a table will be available when you arrive.
I would make an advance reservation when:
- The restaurant is one of the main experiences you want from the trip
- You want to eat at a popular location such as Blue Bayou or Lamplight Lounge
- You are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or another occasion
- You have a large party
- You need to eat at a particular time
- You are planning character dining or a special dining experience
- You are visiting during a holiday, weekend or school break
I would be more comfortable relying on walk-up availability when the restaurant is optional and the group is willing to eat somewhere else if no table opens.
How Far in Advance Can You Make Disneyland Dining Reservations?
Disneyland dining reservations can be made at select restaurants up to 60 days before the dining date.
The 60-day window is a maximum rather than a guarantee that every restaurant and time will be available. Inventory may be limited, released later or unavailable because other guests have already booked it.
Disneyland does not promise one universal release time on its public dining-reservation policy page. Instead of relying on an unofficial opening time, begin checking as soon as your date enters the 60-day window and continue checking when a restaurant is important.
Reservations can appear after the initial booking date because:
- Other guests cancel or modify their plans
- The restaurant adds more inventory
- Operating hours are updated
- Same-day tables become available
There is no need to assume a restaurant is permanently unavailable simply because it is missing at the beginning of the 60-day window.
How to Make a Disneyland Dining Reservation
You can make reservations through the Disneyland website or the Disneyland app.
- Sign in to your MyDisney account.
- Open the Disneyland dining section.
- Select your date, preferred meal period and party size.
- Review the available restaurants and return times.
- Select the restaurant and time you want.
- Enter the requested guest and contact information.
- Provide a valid credit card when required to guarantee the reservation.
- Review the restaurant’s cancellation policy before confirming.
- Save the confirmation in your MyDisney account.
The card used to guarantee a standard reservation is not necessarily charged for the meal in advance. It may be charged if you cancel after the restaurant’s deadline or fail to arrive.
Prepaid dining packages and special experiences work differently because the full amount or a deposit may be collected when booking.
Which Disneyland Restaurants Should You Reserve Early?
The most important reservations are usually restaurants with distinctive settings, limited seating or experiences that cannot be easily replaced by another meal.
Blue Bayou Restaurant
Blue Bayou is located beside the opening scenes of Pirates of the Caribbean and is one of Disneyland Park’s most recognizable restaurants. Its atmosphere and limited indoor seating can make it difficult to secure at popular meal times.
Lamplight Lounge
Lamplight Lounge is a popular Disney California Adventure table-service restaurant overlooking Pixar Pier. Waterfront tables are not guaranteed, but the location, food and cocktails make it a common reservation priority.
Carthay Circle Restaurant
Carthay Circle offers a more formal table-service meal in the park’s reproduction of the historic theater. It is a strong choice for a celebration or a quieter break from the park.
Character Dining
Character meals have limited seating periods and include interactions that cannot be recreated at an ordinary restaurant. Reserve early when meeting the characters during a meal is important to your group.
Special Dining and Viewing Packages
Dining packages connected to nighttime entertainment, holiday meals or limited-time events can sell out because they include more than a standard restaurant table.
Availability and participating locations change, so use Disneyland’s official dining reservation search to see the restaurants offered for your dates.
Do You Need a Disneyland Ticket for a Dining Reservation?
You need valid admission to dine at a restaurant located inside Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure.
Each guest ages 3 and older also needs any required theme park reservation for the same park and date. A dining reservation does not:
- Include a theme park ticket
- Guarantee entry into a sold-out park
- Allow entry into the other park without valid Park Hopper access
- Override a ticket blockout date
Restaurants in the Disneyland Resort hotels and Downtown Disney do not require theme park admission. You should still review parking validation, hotel-access and restaurant-specific instructions before arriving.
Disneyland Dining Reservation Cancellation Policy
Each Disneyland Resort restaurant maintains its own cancellation policy.
Many standard table-service locations currently require cancellation at least two hours before the reservation. A guest who cancels after that deadline or does not arrive may be charged $10 per person to the card used to guarantee the booking.
Do not assume that every reservation follows that exact rule. Holiday meals, dessert parties, character experiences, dining packages and other special events may have:
- An earlier cancellation deadline
- A larger cancellation fee
- A prepaid amount that becomes nonrefundable
- Separate terms for changing the party size

How to Cancel or Modify a Dining Reservation
You can generally modify or cancel a reservation online or through the Disneyland app.
- Sign in to the MyDisney account connected to the reservation.
- Open “My Dining and Activity Reservations” online or “My Plans” in the app.
- Select the reservation you want to change.
- Choose the available cancellation or modification option.
- Review any fee or policy displayed before confirming.
- Save the cancellation or modification confirmation.
If the reservation does not appear in your account, link it using the confirmation information before trying to cancel online.
Changing the party size can be subject to availability. Do not cancel a difficult reservation before confirming that a replacement time or party size is actually available.
What If You Are Late for a Disneyland Dining Reservation?
Disneyland does not publish one universal late-arrival grace period for every restaurant.
Arrive by the reservation time and follow any check-in instructions shown in the app. When you know you will be late, approach the restaurant or contact Disneyland Dining as soon as possible.
The restaurant may still accommodate you, but seating depends on how late you arrive, current capacity and the restaurant’s individual policy. A late arrival can result in:
- A longer wait for another table
- Loss of the original table
- Treatment as a no-show
- A cancellation fee under the restaurant’s terms
Avoid scheduling a dining reservation immediately after a parade, nighttime show or attraction with unpredictable downtime. Leave enough time to walk across the park and check in without rushing.
Can You Get a Same-Day Disneyland Dining Reservation?
Yes. Same-day dining reservations may be available on a limited basis.
Check the Disneyland app throughout the day rather than searching only once in the morning. Availability can change when other guests cancel or modify their plans.
Try several approaches:
- Search several meal times instead of one exact hour
- Check nearby restaurants
- Search with a slightly different party size only when it accurately reflects who will dine
- Look again after the cancellation deadline for the restaurant
- Check the mobile walk-up list after entering the area
Do not rely on finding a cancellation when the meal is essential. Same-day availability is better treated as a backup than as the main plan.
How the Mobile Dine Walk-Up List Works
Participating table-service restaurants allow guests to join a mobile walk-up list through the Disneyland app, subject to availability.
- Open the restaurant in the Disneyland app or scan the QR code near its entrance.
- Check whether the walk-up list is currently accepting parties.
- Enter your party details and any applicable dietary requests.
- Join the list and monitor your phone for a notification.
- Proceed to the specified location when the table is ready.
Your entire party must be present when you arrive for seating. Walk-up availability can open and close throughout the day, so check again later when the restaurant is initially unavailable.
How Mobile Dining Check-In Works
Some table-service restaurants support mobile check-in for confirmed reservations.
When the check-in window arrives, the app may send a notification. You can confirm your arrival and party details through the app or scan a QR code near the restaurant entrance.
Once the table is ready, the app directs you to the designated location. The entire party should arrive together because restaurants generally seat everyone at the same time.
Mobile check-in does not guarantee immediate seating at the reservation time. The reservation holds your place in the restaurant’s schedule, but there may still be a wait while a table is prepared.
Preferred Dining Access for Disneyland Hotel Guests
Guests staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel may receive preferred access to a limited number of reservations at select hotel table-service restaurants during their stay.
To use the benefit, link the valid Disneyland Resort hotel confirmation number to the MyDisney account used for dining reservations.
Preferred access:
- Applies only to select Disneyland Resort hotel restaurants
- Is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis
- Is available only for dates within the hotel stay
- Does not guarantee a reservation
- May not be available for holidays or special dining events
A preferred dining reservation connected to the hotel benefit may be canceled if the qualifying hotel reservation is canceled.
My Strategy for Hard-to-Get Disneyland Dining Reservations
I would approach difficult reservations in this order:
- Search when the 60-day window begins. Do not wait until the rest of the itinerary is complete when the restaurant is a major priority.
- Search a range of meal times. Early lunch and late dinner can be easier than the most popular hours.
- Keep checking periodically. Reservations return to inventory when other guests cancel.
- Check shortly before the visit. Guests often release reservations as cancellation deadlines approach.
- Look for same-day availability. Search the app after entering the resort.
- Try the mobile walk-up list. Use it only when your group is willing to accept that no table may open.
- Have a backup restaurant. Do not let one unavailable meal derail the entire park day.
I would also avoid building an attraction schedule that requires repeatedly crossing the park for meals. A reservation saves a table, but poor timing can still cost valuable park time.
