There are some differences that matter more than atmosphere, though. The Swan’s standard rooms have queen beds, while the Dolphin’s two-bed rooms have doubles. The Dolphin’s standard rooms are slightly larger, both hotels charge a resort fee, and their buses to Magic Kingdom stop at the Transportation and Ticket Center rather than the park entrance.
If I were choosing between Disney’s Swan and Dolphin, I would start by comparing the beds, total room price, and how much time I planned to spend at EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Those factors matter more than which hotel looks better from the outside.

One surprising detail is that the Dolphin’s standard rooms are larger, even though the Swan has larger beds in its two-bed configuration. That means the best room depends on how many people are sleeping there and whether bed width or floor space is more important.
The Biggest Difference: Swan Rooms vs Dolphin Rooms
For many families and couples, the rooms are the most important difference between the Swan and Dolphin.
Disney Swan: Queen Beds and a Smaller Hotel
The Walt Disney World Swan is a 12-story hotel with 756 guest rooms. Its smaller size gives it a more intimate character than the Dolphin, which has roughly twice as many rooms.
Standard Swan rooms measure approximately 340 square feet and are available with two queen beds or a king bed. Certain configurations also offer a king bed with a sofa bed.
The two queen beds are a meaningful advantage for families or groups with four people sharing a room. A queen mattress provides more sleeping width than a double mattress, which can make a noticeable difference over several nights.
The hotel’s atmosphere is another reason I would consider it. The Swan generally feels more understated than the Dolphin, making it appealing for couples, adults, and travelers who want a calmer place to return after the theme parks.
However, don’t assume that smaller automatically means less expensive. The Swan can cost more than the Dolphin, and a substantial rate difference may outweigh the atmospheric advantage.
I would choose the Swan if: I wanted two queen beds, preferred a smaller hotel, and the nightly price was reasonably close to the Dolphin.
Disney Dolphin: More Rooms, More Activity, and Double Beds
The Dolphin is the much larger hotel, with 1,514 guest rooms spread across a 27-story building. It has a dramatic pyramid-shaped design and a livelier, more conventional large-resort atmosphere.
Its standard rooms are approximately 360 square feet, or 20 square feet larger than those at the Swan.
However, the standard two-bed configuration uses two double beds instead of two queens. That matters for guests who plan to share beds.
The Dolphin also offers king-bed configurations and certain rooms with sofa beds. Its published room options accommodate different group arrangements, so I would check the occupancy limit for the exact room being booked rather than assume every room sleeps the same number of people.
The larger building is useful if you like a full-service hotel with restaurants, lounges, convention facilities, and plenty of activity. It may feel busier, but that isn’t necessarily a drawback for families or groups.
I would choose the Dolphin if: Its room rate was significantly lower, I didn’t need queen beds, or I preferred a bigger hotel with more dining and activity in the building.

Which Hotel Has the Better Location?
Location is one area where I would not worry much about choosing the wrong hotel. The Swan and Dolphin sit next to each other in Walt Disney World’s EPCOT Resort area, near Disney’s BoardWalk, Yacht Club, and Beach Club.
Both hotels are within walking distance of EPCOT’s International Gateway entrance and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Friendship Boats also provide transportation to both parks.
This makes the Swan and Dolphin especially attractive for vacations centered on EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Being able to walk back to the hotel after nighttime entertainment is a major convenience compared with staying somewhere that requires a bus ride.
Getting to EPCOT
You can walk from either hotel to EPCOT’s International Gateway, the park’s rear entrance between the United Kingdom and France pavilions.
That entrance is particularly convenient for World Showcase, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and evenings at EPCOT.

Getting to Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios is also accessible on foot from the Swan and Dolphin. The walk is longer than the EPCOT International Gateway route, but it is manageable for many guests.
If you don’t want to walk, Friendship Boat service connects the resort area with Hollywood Studios. Boats can be especially appealing after a long park day or during hot Florida weather.
Because both hotels use the same general resort transportation network, I would not choose one over the other solely for Hollywood Studios access.
The Magic Kingdom Transportation Drawback
There is one transportation detail I would pay close attention to before booking either hotel.
The Swan and Dolphin buses to Magic Kingdom drop guests at the Transportation and Ticket Center, not directly outside the park entrance.
From the Transportation and Ticket Center, you must continue to Magic Kingdom using the monorail or ferryboat. This adds an extra transfer compared with Disney-owned resort buses that stop closer to the park entrance.
If most of your vacation will be spent at Magic Kingdom, I would factor this into the hotel decision. The Swan and Dolphin are excellent EPCOT-area hotels, but they are not necessarily the most convenient choices for a Magic Kingdom-focused trip.

Swan vs Dolphin Prices: Watch the Resort and Parking Fees
Room rates change by travel date, occupancy, room type, and available promotions, so I would never assume the Dolphin is automatically cheaper or the Swan always costs more.
Instead, compare the final booking totals for identical dates and similar room categories.
Both hotels currently publish a $50 daily resort service package fee, plus tax. The package includes certain amenities and activities described by the hotel.
For guests bringing a car, the hotels also publish a $40 daily self-parking charge, plus tax. Valet parking costs more. These charges can change, so check the current booking terms.
That means a traveler driving to the hotel could face approximately $90 per day in published resort service and self-parking charges before tax, in addition to the base room rate. Some booking websites display resort fees within their advertised total, so make sure you don’t count a charge twice.
There is a useful parking benefit, however: registered Swan and Dolphin guests receive complimentary standard parking at Disney World’s theme parks.
I would calculate the total hotel cost using:
- Room price for the full stay
- Mandatory resort service charges
- Applicable hotel taxes
- Parking charges if bringing a car
- Any additional room or package charges
A cheaper nightly rate isn’t necessarily the better deal until you’ve compared those totals. If the difference between the Swan and Dolphin is small, I would prioritize the bed configuration and atmosphere. If one hotel is substantially cheaper, I would be much more willing to compromise.
Do the Swan and Dolphin Get Disney Resort Benefits?
Although the Swan and Dolphin are not owned and operated by Disney in the same way as Disney’s Beach Club or BoardWalk Inn, they participate in important Walt Disney World guest benefit programs.
Both hotels are managed by Marriott and participate in Marriott Bonvoy, which can make them attractive to guests who earn or redeem eligible hotel points.
Guests at both the Swan and Dolphin can currently receive:
- Early Theme Park Entry: Eligible hotel guests may enter participating Disney World theme parks 30 minutes before regular opening, subject to Disney’s rules.
- Extended Evening Theme Park Hours: Both hotels are included among Disney’s participating properties for this benefit on select nights.
- Complimentary theme park transportation: Shuttle buses, Friendship Boats, and walkways serve different destinations.
- Complimentary standard theme park parking: Available for registered resort guests.
- Marriott Bonvoy participation: Eligible reservations may earn or use Marriott Bonvoy points under program rules.
The Extended Evening Theme Park Hours benefit is especially valuable because it is not offered to every hotel at Walt Disney World. Depending on the dates, eligible guests may have additional evening access to select attractions at participating parks.
However, the Swan and Dolphin are not identical to Disney-owned hotels in every respect. Some vacation packages, services, and promotions may have different eligibility requirements.
Check Disney’s official Extended Evening Theme Park Hours information and the participating hotel list before relying on that benefit.
Which Has Better Restaurants: Swan or Dolphin?
The Dolphin has more restaurants and lounges inside its building, but guests can use dining facilities throughout the Swan and Dolphin complex.
The Swan lists eight restaurants and lounges, including Il Mulino New York Trattoria and Kimonos. The Dolphin lists eleven, including Todd English’s bluezoo and Bourbon Steak.
That makes the Dolphin attractive if you enjoy having numerous dining choices close to the lobby. However, the two buildings are close enough that I wouldn’t treat the Swan as having limited food options.
The EPCOT Resort area also provides easy access to restaurants at Disney’s BoardWalk, Yacht Club, and Beach Club. You can build an entire evening around nearby dining without entering a theme park.
For me, the restaurant selection would be a secondary consideration. Both hotels have access to enough dining variety that the room and price differences matter more.
Are the Pools Better at the Swan or Dolphin?
The pool decision is easier than the room decision because Swan and Dolphin guests share access to the resort complex’s recreational facilities.
The larger pool complex includes the Grotto Pool, with waterfalls and tropical landscaping. There are also other pools and recreational facilities throughout the property.
The Dolphin sits closer to some of the larger pool and recreation areas, which may be convenient for families who expect to spend considerable time swimming.
However, I would not choose the Dolphin solely because of pool access. Swan guests can also use the shared facilities, subject to applicable hotel rules.
If pool time is a priority, I would compare the location of the specific room being booked and ask about any facility closures or maintenance during the stay.
What About the Swan Reserve?
There is a third hotel in the complex: the Walt Disney World Swan Reserve.
The Swan Reserve is a newer, smaller hotel with a more contemporary, boutique-style atmosphere. It has approximately 349 guest rooms and shares access to many of the broader resort complex’s amenities.
Its standard rooms offer different configurations, including two queen beds or a king bed with a sofa bed.
I would consider Swan Reserve if the price were competitive and I wanted a more modern hotel atmosphere. However, I wouldn’t automatically choose it over the Swan or Dolphin without checking its location relative to my preferred walking routes and transportation stops.
The Swan Reserve also participates in Disney’s Early Theme Park Entry and eligible Extended Evening Theme Park Hours programs.
Should Families Choose the Swan or Dolphin?
For a family sharing a standard room with two beds, I would give the Swan serious consideration because its queen mattresses are wider than the Dolphin’s doubles.
However, the Dolphin has more room configurations and can be a practical option for families needing different sleeping arrangements. The best choice depends on the number of adults and children and the specific room’s permitted occupancy.
I would not assume a larger hotel automatically provides more comfortable sleeping arrangements. A Dolphin room with two doubles might feel tighter at night than a slightly smaller Swan room with two queens.
For larger groups, I would compare the family rooms, suites, and connecting room options rather than just looking at standard room rates.

Which Is Better for Adults and Couples?
I would generally lean toward the Swan for an adults-focused trip or a couples vacation, provided the price was comparable.
The hotel’s smaller size and more subdued atmosphere make it appealing when the goal is to enjoy the parks during the day and return to a quieter setting in the evening.
That said, the Dolphin is still a perfectly reasonable choice for adults. Its larger restaurant and lounge selection may be more appealing to guests who enjoy a busier hotel environment.
Both benefit from proximity to the BoardWalk and EPCOT, which are among the most appealing areas of Walt Disney World for adults who enjoy restaurants, evening walks, and entertainment.

But if the Dolphin were meaningfully cheaper for the same dates, I wouldn’t hesitate to consider it. The two hotels share so many important advantages that paying a large premium for the Swan rarely makes sense unless its room configuration or atmosphere matters to you.
