My Coronado Springs Resort Review

I recently stayed at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort during a solo trip to Walt Disney World, and I have a lot to say. This Coronado Springs Resort review will give you a clear, honest look at what it's really like to stay there—from the food and rooms to the transportation and overall vibe.

If you're an adult traveler or planning a trip with older kids or a partner, this moderate resort might be exactly what you're looking for—or not, depending on what matters most to you.

I booked Coronado Springs because I wanted a more grown-up atmosphere without paying deluxe prices. I had heard it was one of the best Disney World hotels for adults, and after my visit, I can see why—though there are definitely a few things to consider before you book. It's one of those resorts that’s easy to love if you know what to expect.

Key Points

  • Best for adults or convention-goers: Coronado has a more sophisticated vibe, especially in the Gran Destino Tower. If you're traveling without little kids, it fits.
  • Transportation can be a drag: There's no monorail, no Skyliner, and depending on your building, you might have a long walk just to catch a bus.
  • Upgrade to the Tower if possible: The Gran Destino Tower feels like a completely different (and more luxurious) hotel than the rest of the resort.

Coronado Springs Resort Review: Is It Right for You?

Let’s start with the biggest question: who is Coronado Springs actually for? It’s technically a moderate resort, but it feels like it straddles the line between moderate and deluxe.

The Gran Destino Tower, which opened in 2019, is sleek and modern with a grand lobby and indoor hallways that feel closer to what you'd find at a deluxe resort. But the outer buildings (Ranchos, Casitas, and Cabanas) are a different story—more spread out and definitely more “moderate” in feel.

Because Coronado Springs is also a convention hotel, you'll notice a different atmosphere. It feels quieter and more polished than somewhere like Caribbean Beach Resort, which has more of a laid-back, beachy vibe. If you’re trying to decide between the two, here’s a full Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort review that might help you compare.

This resort is a strong contender if you're looking for something less chaotic and more adult-oriented, without completely giving up Disney perks. It's also a smart pick if you want great dining without having to stay at a deluxe property.

The Gran Destino Tower vs. the Outer Buildings

This is where the resort feels split into two experiences. I stayed in the Gran Destino Tower, and honestly, it made a huge difference.

Gran Destino Tower

  • Gorgeous lobby with air conditioning (a true blessing in summer)
  • Elevators with touch screens
  • Indoor hallways and quiet rooms
  • More upscale dining and lounge options like Toledo and Dahlia Lounge

The Tower is sleek and well-designed, with a lobby that immediately gives you that elevated feeling. If you’re someone who appreciates a hotel-style stay—quiet hallways, elevators that work fast, and everything under one roof—the Tower really does feel more deluxe than moderate. My room had modern decor, plenty of outlets and USB ports, and a bathroom that felt stylish and functional.

Outer Buildings

  • Long walks to food, bus stops, and the lobby
  • More traditionally themed rooms
  • Can feel isolated depending on which section you’re in

The Ranchos, Casitas, and Cabanas have their charm, but they’re spread out. I walked through these areas a few times, and while pretty, they definitely didn’t have the same vibe. These rooms open directly to the outdoors (like most moderate resorts), and walking to the main areas can be a trek. If you're traveling with older adults or have limited mobility, this is something to take seriously.

If you’re on the fence about whether to splurge for the Tower, I’d say it’s worth it, especially if this is a special trip or you care about a quieter, hotel-like experience.

Food and Dining at Coronado Springs

I was pleasantly surprised by the dining options. Coronado Springs is one of the few moderate resorts with a real emphasis on food and lounges, and it shows.

Three Bridges Bar & Grill

This open-air restaurant on the lake is genuinely one of my favorite spots to eat on Disney property. The views at sunset are gorgeous, and the food feels elevated but still casual. I had the steak frites, and they were shockingly good for the price. Pair that with a sangria and a breeze off the water, and you’ll understand why locals even come here.

Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood

Located on the top floor of the Tower, Toledo is a beautiful spot for a nicer dinner. The ambiance is upscale, but not stuffy. The tapas-style menu is great for sharing, and the views of Disney property at night are stunning. This is one of those hidden gems for couples or adult groups looking to dine well without leaving their resort.

El Mercado and Café Rix

These are your go-to options for a quick breakfast or snack. El Mercado is a standard food court, and while it’s not exceptional, it’s convenient. The breakfast burrito was decent, and I grabbed coffee here each morning. Café Rix has more of a grab-and-go vibe, with pastries, drinks, and a small selection of snacks.

If you're looking for better quick service or a wider variety of kid-friendly food, other Disney World hotels might serve your needs better. But if you’re into cocktails, lounges, and scenic dinners, Coronado holds its own.

Transportation: No Frills Here

One of the biggest downsides of Coronado Springs is the transportation. It’s bus-only. No monorail, no boats, no Skyliner access. And the resort is massive, so depending on where your room is, you could be walking 10–15 minutes just to get to your nearest stop.

There are multiple internal bus stops, which can be confusing at first. The Tower has its own stop, but the other buildings share stops around the property. The buses themselves are reliable and ran on time during my stay, but expect longer commute times to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom compared to the resorts near Epcot or Hollywood Studios.

If ease of access is your top priority, consider a monorail resort, or something with proximity benefits like hotels within walking distance to Epcot.

Atmosphere and Theme

Coronado Springs leans into a Southwest and Spanish-style theme. It’s subtle in the Tower and more pronounced in the outer buildings. Think tiled fountains, desert-style landscaping, and warm colors throughout. The theming isn’t as bold or kid-focused as Art of Animation, but that’s not a bad thing.

At night, the lights around the bridges and the reflections on the lake create a really peaceful setting. It’s one of the few Disney resorts where I felt like I could unwind after a long day in the parks. There’s also a good balance of families and adult travelers. I never felt overwhelmed by noise, even in the main lobby.

Pros and Cons

Here’s a quick rundown based on my experience:

Pros:

  • Gran Destino Tower feels like a deluxe hotel
  • Three Bridges and Toledo are stand-out dining options
  • Quieter, more refined vibe
  • Good balance of value and amenities
  • Beautiful lake views and nighttime ambiance

Cons:

  • Large resort with lots of walking
  • Bus transportation only
  • Outer buildings feel very different from the Tower
  • Not as immersive or themed for young kids

Final Thoughts

Would I stay at Coronado Springs again? Yes—but only in the Gran Destino Tower. If I couldn’t get a room in the Tower, I’d probably look into other moderate resorts or even a nearby offsite hotel with better access or perks, like some of these resorts near Disney World with shuttle service.

It’s not the perfect resort, but it punches above its weight in many ways. If you’re traveling as a couple or attending a conference, or you just want something less kid-focused, Coronado Springs is worth considering. Just go in with a good map, good walking shoes, and the understanding that the Tower and the rest of the resort offer two very different experiences.
