The Oriental Land Company announced that the major expansion to Tokyo Disneyland Fantasyland, Tomorrowland and Toontown will open September 28, 2020!
And the Nerds are excited. COVID-19 put a crimp in the Tokyo Disney Resort’s expansion efforts (not to mention the 2020 Olympics) and forced the project into a holding pattern.

The Oriental Land Company’s announcement is a great sign of confidence in the near-term future for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.
When the Tokyo Disney Resort talks about large-scale expansion, they mean it. The announcement boasts of a 47,000 square meter area – translated this equates to over 505,000 square feet or more than 3.5 Costco warehouses (that really puts it in perspective, doesn’t it?).
Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast is a trackless e-ticket dark ride that is expected to be among the most impressive attractions the Disney Imagineers have developed.
The attraction is the centerpiece of the enhanced Tokyo Disneyland Fantasyland and will be housed in an entire area theme to Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Nearby, in the expanded Tokyo Disneyland Fantasyland is Fantasyland Forest Theatre – home to a 1,500 seat indoor theater featuring the 25-minute long Mickey’s Magical Music World. The theater is billed as Tokyo Disneyland’s first indoor theater.
Nearby in Tomorrowland, The Happy Ride with Baymax will open simultaneously.
The new attraction is a Big Hero 6 themed version of Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Disneyland and Alien Swirling Saucers in Disneyland.
The Disney Park Nerds are huge fans of these unassuming attractions – they are big on fun and big on laughs for guests of all ages!
Rounding out the four new attractions at the Tokyo Disney Resort is Minnie’s Style Studio, set to debut in Toontown.
Minnie is purported to be stylin’ in the latest fashion and will be ready to take pictures with guests. Her outfits will change with the season and has us wondering…will we be able to buy matching outfits for ShellieMay?
Needless to say, the Nerds are extremely excited to get back to Tokyo Disneyland and are looking forward to a revision to our favorite Tokyo Disneyland guide!
