Beginning December 2, Hong Kong Disneyland closed again amid a rise in COVID cases.
With Hong Kong Disneyland closed, half of Disney’s resort locations are expected to celebrate Christmas without guests in the theme parks. Hong Kong joins Disneyland Paris which recently announced it will remained closed until Feb 12, 2021 and the original Disneyland Resort in Anaheim; the only Disney property that has not yet reopened since closing in March 2020.
The news that Hong Kong Disneyland closed is rough news for the Walt Disney Company and Cast Members, alike. But the Nerds like to look at the bright side. As an opening date is announced, as people get back to work and as guests return to the park, it is nothing short of magical.
There is something surreal about this “reopening” process and the great mood that envelops everyone involved. We are crossing our fingers for a short closure and a grand reopening.
And while the Nerds are light on predictions, we do think now is an interesting time to plan a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. Or, at least have a trip on your radar. There is no doubt that there is pent up demand for travel and for travel to Disney parks. By all accounts, the second half of 2021 will see the widespread effects of the COVID-19 vaccine lead to robust travel as rescheduled vacations see travelers flock to their favorite destinations.
Watching the ebbs and flows of the impact of Coronavirus on theme park travel, we think there will be a brief time period that will be ideal for a Disney park vacation. We suspect there will be a lull between the release of the vaccine, when vacation spots reopen fully, and when the masses will be ready to travel. With any luck, this will be both a safe time to travel where destinations like Hong Kong Disneyland are offering great deals to raise crowd levels to capacity, and crowds are still minimal.
Just think….an uncrowded, fully open, mask free Disney vacation. Now THAT’S worth getting excited about!
