(The Ultimate Guide to Disney World)

Introduction to Disney Snacks

Nerds get ready…get set….snack!

With six of us roaming the parks looking for the best Walt Disney World snacks available every day (you can read our post about eating at Epcot’s Festival of the Arts) at the Disney World theme parks, we spent a lot of money and a lot of time to narrow it down to our Top 12.

The fun part about traveling in a Nerd pack is that it’s easy to try a lot of different items with a bite here and a bite there (every where a bite bite!).

Oh the things we do to help our readers.

Truly, it’s a tough job.

But ranking Disney snacks is a difficult task and the Nerds and Nerdlings didn’t always (ever) agree.

Apparently, how we feel about Disney snacks and “Snacking Around the World” is rooted deeply in one’s psyche.

At any rate, we suffer for our art and here are our 12 favorite Disney snacks at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

12. Strawberry Shortcake Ice Creak Sandwich

Coming in 12th place, the Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Sandwich is nearly an honorable mention.

This dazzling treat consists of strawberry ice cream served between two sugar cookies and then rolled in vanilla and strawberry cake crumbs.

The Nerds had an advantage in being able to take a bite of this.

A whole sandwich?

That might be a bit much. But a bite was fun!

This little beauty is available seasonally (so it barely made the list) at Dino-Bites at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

11. Popcorn

Popcorn is a Disney snack staple!

As far as Disney snacks go, Popcorn is one of the most popular.

It’s easy to eat and easy to share and available throughout all the parks.

The smell of butter when it’s freshly popped attracts people and Nerds of all types.

In the context of Disney snacks, though, Disney World popcorn is reliable and consistent.

And consistently overly salted.

Don’t misunderstand us, washing it down with a delicious Coke is a treat!

Extra points to popcorn in its mobility and sharability.

10. Num Num Cookie

Jack Jack isn’t the only one who is interested in a Disney snack consisting of sugar and chocolate chips, served hot.

Mmmmmmmm!

This delicacy can be found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Pixar Place’s Market.

When the smell of freshly baked chocolate cookies grabs your attention, it’s a fight to the finish with five other people to compete with.

In fact, the Num Num Cookie was gone within seconds (seriously, these Nerdlings are like raptors) – it went so quickly that we forgot to take a picture!

We had to sneak to the front of the line to take a picture of someone else’s deep dish cookie delight.

There was a heated debate about the Num Num Cookie amongst the Nerds and Nerdlings as it is made with semi-sweet chocolate.

In the end, this Disney snack would have been ranked hire with milk chocolate; but it’s hard to know as the entire thing was gone in a flash!

9. Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich

The Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich certainly has character (get it?).

The frozen treat will help cool you down on a hot Florida day or provide the sugar rush needed to experience a couple more attractions.

These Disney snacks are often served “solid as a rock” frozen and often need a little time to thaw to be enjoyed fully.

Otherwise, they are so cold as to be difficult to taste (not that this has ever stopped the Nerd).

Extra points for being fun to look at as well as fun to eat.

8. Chicken Dumplings

A Nerd is likely to get hungry when walking from Asia to Africa – it’s only natural. So begins the entry of the first of the savory Disney snacks on our list.

Walking by the cart and smelling Mr. Kamal’s freshly made chicken dumplings (essentially fried chicken potstickers) will get anyone salivating to give them a try.

Six dumplings for six Nerds and Nerdlings. Let’s just say it was a very short stop at this Animal Kingdom cart.

Although an early vote for a top Disney snack by one of the Nerdlings, these were a bit too fried to crack the Top 5.

7. Mickey Ice Cream Bar

The Mickey Ice Cream Bar is one of the Disney snacks classics for the ages. Vanilla ice cream wrapped in a chocolate shell on a stick – yummy!

These treats are always good and always enjoyable. The biggest challenge?

Sharing a Mickey Ice Cream Bar can be tricky because they chocolate shell cracks and falls (sadly, we lost a large chunk of chocolate…it was a sad moment).

But cool treats are the cat’s meow and we enjoyed every bite.

6. Giant Donuts from Joffrey’s

For the eldest of the Nerdlings – who has sampled nearly all the Disney snacks – there is no better snack than a Joffrey’s donut.

In fact, these are often more than a snack as they often replace full meals. Full? No problem! Have a giant Joffrey’s donut.

Hungry?

Great!

Joffrey’s donut for you.

Sad?

This donut will cheer you up.

Happy?

Celebrate with a Joffrey’s donut.

Seriously, there is no scenario in which a blue, brown, white, pink (and on and on) giant Joffrey’s donut doesn’t make his day.

5. Joffrey’s Frozen Flame

This sweet slushy made the Top 5 in our Disney snacks count-down.

This treat was nowhere on the Nerd’s radar.

And then a Nerdling ordered one in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom.

And then the Nerd drank it and had to buy another.

This thing is delicious!

The mix of passionfruit and strawberry blended together is sweet bliss. And we mean SWEET!

Fortunately, the Nerd’s tolerance for sugar is up there will Will Ferrell’s Buddy the Elf.

The tag line of this Disney snack should be “one good sip deserves another” because every time the Nerd got ahold of one, it quickly disappeared (brain freeze was an oft-ignored side effect).

4. Pork and Vegetable Egg Roll

The second of our savory Disney snacks cracked the top 5.

And once again, a half dozen of these little beauties disappeared before anyone thought to take a photo.

Honestly, we’re not sure anyone was actually hungry by this point, but it didn’t matter.

Everyone jumped right in!

These egg rolls are available in the China Pavilion at Epcot.

There is a small cart along the main World Showcase pathway between Norway and Refreshment Outpost as you pass by China. Here, at Joy of Tea, guests can get their grubby little hands on this fried goodness.

Plus, there’s vegetables…so it must be healthy, right?

3. Churro (with or without chocolate dipping sauce)

Donuts are great – but fried goodness rolled in cinnamon and sugar and (often) served hot is one of those Disney snacks that is

tough to beat. In fact, only two items rank higher in our Top 12 countdown.

Many Nerdling tears have been shed watching one of the Nerds devour a churro before everyone got a bite.

But, as the saying goes, if you wanted your own churro then buy it with your own money.

Or something like that.

A visit to a Disney World park just isn’t the same without enjoying a delicious churro.

2. Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich

Picture it. Magic Kingdom. 2001. The Nerds (pre-Nerdling days) were minding their own business and enjoying a day at Magic Kingdom.

As they passed through Main Street’s hub near Cinderella Castle, they made a left and crossed the bridge toward Liberty Square.

The familiar pang of hunger struck and since it had been at least 15 minutes since the last of the Disney snacks had been consumed, it was time for another.

The Nerds stepped up to Sleepy Hollow and perused the menu. Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich?

That sounds interesting.

And when it arrived, the clouds parted and angels sang.

Vanilla ice cream heaped between two warm, fresh and soft chocolate chip cookies. It was amazing!

The Nerds would eat at least 5 more on that visit and Sleepy Hollow would become a “must have” snack for decades.

Picture it.

Magic Kingdom.

2020.

The Nerd and a Nerdling make their way through Magic Kingdom with one thing on their minds – it’s time for an Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich.

Sure, there are plenty of delicious Disney snacks out there, but we had been focused on this treat for weeks.

We stepped up to Sleep Hallow – a Nerd staple over the years – and placed our order. “I’m sorry, we don’t serve those currently.” Wait. What?!?!?!?!

The Cast Member was unsure what to do as we stood there, jaw slacked, not knowing what to do.

It was as if our joy had been ripped away.

After 27 minutes of staring blankly at the Cast Member, the Nerd regained his composure and asked where he and his Nerdling might be able to find this delicious treat.

The Cast Member was unsure.

Walking away in a stupor, the Nerd had a flash of brilliance and “chatted” with Disney via the Disney World app.

The response was disappointing – they were unsure.

Dejected, the Nerd settled for other Disney snacks to fill the void.

The next day, while at Animal Kingdom, the Nerd spotted someone in Dinoland U.S.A. eating an Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich!

Overjoyed and barely able to contain himself, he asked the fellow guest where they secured this tasty treat and this humanitarian pointed the Nerd and Nerdling to Dino-Bite Snacks.

JOY!!!!

And a small tear ran down the Nerd’s cheek – a tear of pure happiness.

In the end, the Nerd and Nerdling would find their way to Dino-Bite Snacks with confidence knowing that the #2 snack in all of Disney World awaited them.

1. Mickey Pretzel

Honest to goodness, this cannot be a shock.

If you have ever read anything on this site, you know how the Nerd (and Nerdlings) feel about Mickey Pretzels.

We will search high and low for this soft, hot and salted bread.

In fact, even when on our VIP Tour, we made it known that Disney snacks would be consumed regularly and that Mickey Pretzels were a must.

Roy, our tourguide, knew exactly which kiosks would be open early in the day and all was right with the world.

The Nerdlings prefer their Mickey Pretzels with cheese while the Nerd prefers his “straight up”.

No matter which way you eat them, Mickey Pretzels reign supreme among all the Disney snacks.
