Aulani can be an excellent honeymoon resort if you want Hawaii, Disney service and plenty to do without needing an adults-only atmosphere. It has a beachfront setting in Ko Olina, couples spa treatments, romantic dining, sunset whirlpools, quiet pool areas and enough Oʻahu excursions to keep the trip from feeling like five straight days at a family resort.
The catch is important: Aulani is still a family resort. If your idea of a honeymoon is complete seclusion, adults-only pools and silence around every corner, I would choose a different resort. If you like having plenty of energy around you but want romantic pockets you can retreat to, Aulani works much better.

Is Aulani Good for a Honeymoon?
Yes, for the right couple. I think Aulani makes the most sense for honeymooners who want a resort that combines relaxation with things to do.

Aulani’s strongest honeymoon advantage is that you can make each day feel different without changing hotels. Spend one day almost entirely at the resort, another exploring Oʻahu, another at the spa and pool, and another around the lagoon.
What Aulani Actually Feels Like as a Couple
The atmosphere changes a lot throughout the day.
Early mornings are my favorite time for couples. Ko Olina feels quieter, the temperature is comfortable and the lagoon paths haven’t filled up yet. It’s a good time to grab coffee, walk along the water or simply sit outside before the pool areas become busy.
Midday is when Aulani feels most obviously like a family resort. The main pools, lazy river and children’s areas are active, and I would not expect a secluded honeymoon atmosphere around Waikolohe Valley in the middle of the day.
Then the resort changes again toward sunset and into the evening. The lighting softens, the lagoon quiets down and it becomes much easier to find the relaxed atmosphere I would want on a honeymoon.
Best Romantic Things to Do on an Aulani Honeymoon
1. Use the Adults-Only Whirlpool at Sunset
Disney specifically promotes a secluded adults-only whirlpool as part of the Aulani honeymoon experience.
This is exactly the kind of feature I would work into the trip rather than spending every afternoon around the main family pool. Aulani also has four whirlpool spas overall, including two with sunset views.
2. Book a Couples Treatment at Laniwai Spa
Laniwai is one of the easiest ways to make an Aulani trip feel specifically like a honeymoon rather than simply a Disney vacation in Hawaii.
The spa offers treatments designed for couples along with access to Kula Wai, its 5,000-square-foot outdoor hydrotherapy garden with heated pools, rain showers, a whirlpool, cold plunge and other water features.
I would book this before arrival rather than waiting until the honeymoon begins. Disney currently opens Laniwai Spa reservations 180 days in advance.
3. Have One Dinner at ‘AMA‘AMA
If I were choosing one meal to make the honeymoon dinner, it would be ‘AMA‘AMA.
Disney describes it as an elegant open-air restaurant overlooking Ko Olina Beach, which is a much more natural date-night setting than the character-heavy breakfast experience at Makahiki.
I’d make the reservation for a night when you don’t have another major activity planned and let dinner be the event.

4. Look for Adult-Exclusive Stargazing
This is one of the more interesting honeymoon additions because it isn’t the type of thing I would automatically associate with a Disney resort.
Aulani’s current Daily ‘Iwa includes Adult Exclusive Stargazing – ‘Imi Loa Nā Hōkū on select evenings. The schedule changes, so I would check the Aulani app during the trip rather than building the entire itinerary around one fixed night.
The experience ties stargazing to the way ancient Hawaiians navigated through Polynesia, making it much more memorable than simply finding another bar after dinner.
5. Spend an Evening at KA WA‘A Lū‘au
KA WA‘A is Aulani’s lū‘au experience, combining Hawaiian storytelling, music, dance and food.
I wouldn’t necessarily schedule multiple expensive resort experiences on the same trip, but for a honeymoon I like the idea of choosing one evening that feels distinctly Hawaiian and treating it as one of the signature nights.
Disney currently opens KA WA‘A reservations 180 days in advance, so this is another experience I would book well before arriving.
6. Take Honeymoon Photos While You’re Already There
Aulani offers Disney PhotoPass photography, and Disney specifically promotes its photographers as an option for honeymoon memories.
If professional photos matter to you, I’d schedule them near the beginning of the trip rather than saving them for the final day. That way weather or travel fatigue doesn’t leave you with one chance to get them right.
Disney currently lists advance PhotoPass bookings beginning 45 days ahead.
7. Keep One Morning Completely Unplanned
Some of the best honeymoon time at Aulani doesn’t require a reservation.
I’d keep at least one morning open for coffee, the lagoon, a walk along the paved shoreline path and whatever you feel like doing next. The beach and Ko Olina lagoon are right outside the resort, and paddleboards and other equipment are available if you decide you want something more active.
Where to Go When You Want a Quieter Aulani
Aulani is not adults-only, but there are ways to get away from the busiest family areas.
- Wailana Pool: Disney describes this as a tranquil pool away from the excitement of the main pool complex.
- The adults-only whirlpool: one of the honeymoon-specific amenities Disney promotes.
- Ko Olina lagoon early in the morning: one of my favorite times to enjoy the beachfront before the day gets busy.
- ‘Ōlelo Room in the evening: cocktails and appetizers indoors or outside under the stars.
- Laniwai Spa: an easy escape from the pool-and-family side of the resort.
If you want even more privacy around the pools, Disney also offers cabanas and two-person Casabella loungers for an additional charge. Some Mākua Cabanas at Wailana Pool are currently restricted to guests ages 18 and older.
Which Aulani Room Would I Choose for a Honeymoon?
I would prioritize the view and balcony over extra square footage unless you’re planning a long stay.
Aulani’s hotel rooms have a private porch or balcony, and current room categories include Standard View, Island Gardens View, Partial Ocean View, Poolside Gardens View and Ocean View.
For a honeymoon, an Ocean View or Partial Ocean View room is where I would be most tempted to spend the extra money. I’d rather have a balcony I enjoy sitting on in the morning or at sunset than pay for a larger room we barely use.

What Should You Book Before an Aulani Honeymoon?
I would not schedule every day, but there are a few honeymoon experiences worth securing before the trip.

Do You Need a Car for an Aulani Honeymoon?
Not necessarily, but I would rent one for at least part of the trip if exploring Oʻahu matters to you.
Aulani works well as a self-contained resort, but I would not spend an entire Hawaii honeymoon without seeing anything beyond Ko Olina. A day on the North Shore, a scenic drive or another part of the island breaks up the resort routine.
If your ideal honeymoon is mostly pool, lagoon, spa and resort dining, rideshare or airport transportation can make more sense than paying for a rental car every day.

How Many Nights Would I Stay at Aulani for a Honeymoon?
I like about five nights for an Aulani-focused honeymoon. That’s enough time to enjoy the resort without feeling like every day has to be spent beside the same pool.
If Aulani is only one part of a longer Hawaii honeymoon, three or four nights can also work well before moving somewhere quieter or to another island.
For couples who want more privacy and conventional luxury, I would seriously consider splitting the trip between Aulani and another resort rather than forcing Aulani to be something it isn’t.
The most obvious nearby comparison is the Four Seasons vs. Aulani. That comparison becomes much more relevant on a honeymoon than it is on a typical family trip.
A 5-Night Aulani Honeymoon Itinerary
I would leave plenty of open space. A honeymoon shouldn’t feel like a theme park touring plan.

If adult-exclusive stargazing is offered during your dates, I’d work it into whichever evening is otherwise the least structured.
How Much Should You Spend on the Room vs. Experiences?
If the honeymoon budget is not unlimited, I would pick one room upgrade and two or three memorable experiences rather than trying to make every part of the trip premium.
For me, that could mean a better view, one spa visit and one special dinner. I would rather have those than upgrade every meal, rent a cabana every day and spend money simply because something is labeled premium.

Aulani vs. an Adults-Only Hawaii Resort for a Honeymoon
This is the decision I think matters most.
At Aulani, you’re choosing a polished Disney resort in Hawaii with excellent facilities, a lot of activity and plenty of romantic moments, not an adults-only honeymoon resort.
I’d choose Aulani when:
- Disney is meaningful to one or both of you.
- You want a honeymoon that mixes relaxing with activities.
- You like the security and convenience of a large full-service resort.
- You want to use Aulani as a base for exploring Oʻahu.
I’d choose somewhere else when the entire goal is privacy, adults-only pools, quiet restaurants and a more traditional luxury-honeymoon atmosphere.
Is an Aulani Honeymoon Worth It?
I think it can be, as long as you book it for what Aulani actually is.
I wouldn’t choose Aulani expecting a secluded couples resort. I would choose it because it gives you a beautiful beachfront base on Oʻahu with enough quiet spaces, spa experiences, date-night dining and honeymoon-specific activities to build a romantic trip around a resort that still has plenty of energy.
The best version, for me, would be a handful of planned honeymoon moments surrounded by a lot of unscheduled time: a couples spa treatment, one special dinner, sunset at the water, an island day and maybe adult-exclusive stargazing if it’s offered during the stay.
